Found correct US census from 1880, showing him being a dentist at age 28, living in his parents' house, Asahel E from CT, and Nancy B from MA, along with his wife Arlettie and their first two children. I also have an IGI marriage index for Austin J Goodrich and Arlettie Hamilton from 1875 in Geauga, OH. Found the US census from 1900 Sharpsville, PA showing my ggmother, Arlettie, as a widow, living with the children as I know them. I know that my Austin died between 1891 when my grandmother was born and the 1900 census, but I have no documentation regarding his death or burial. Unfortunately, I have found very conflicting information while researching. While my ggmother was a widow on the 1900 census in PA, an Austin J Goodrich, dentist, is listed as a widow on the 1900 census from Trumbull. In the 1910 census, a DR AJ Goodrich is listed as divorced, and remarried for 4 yrs to an Anna. In 1920, he is still a dentist, but his wife is now Reta. I have an IGI death index on an Austin James Goodrich, b 28 Sept 1851 and d. 24 Jan 1931. The death certificate information was given by yet another wife, Mary S. It states his parents as the same people as are on my 1880 census, but lists them as being born in Waterville, NY (f), and Bristolville, CT (m). It appears as if my ggfather falsified records, making it very difficult for me to trace my roots. If anyone can shed light on his death(?) between 1891 and 1900, or any newspaper articles written about him, or any divorce documents, I'd very much appreciate it.
