Practically all his life was spent in Ashtabula Cnty from where at the age of 18 he enlisted in CoC-177Reg-OVI & served about 2 years in the CivilWar. On 24 Nov 1880 he was married to MissGertrude Wakefield of Kinsman & for nearly 50 years they have made their home here. He had been in failing health for about 3 years but was able to be around as usual until taken seriously ill of complications caused from heart trouble. Besides his wife he leaves 3 children: CharlesL-Ashtabula; ChaunceyE-Colebrook; Lena Gallant-Colebrook & 7 grandchildren. Services were held at the home with Rev Askew-Colebrook officiating. Interment was made{4/25/1927} at Kinsman Cem. OBIT: OH-Ashtabula Star Beacon 19 Apr 1938 GERTRUDE WAKEFIELD HOWARD: Colebrook; 82, widow of WilliamL Howard died Mon afternoon at her home. Death came unexpectedly & was believed to have been due to a heart attack. MrsHoward was compelled to use crutches for 4-5 years due to a broken hip. MrsHoward was born 21 Apr 1856 in Kinsman & would have been 82 Thurs. She moved to Colebrook when a child & had lived in this township the remainder of her life. She was one of the oldest residents of the township. Surviving are 3 children: CharlesL Howard-Ashtabula; ChaunceyE Howard-Colebrook; MrsLena Gallant-Colebrook & 7 grandchildren also survive. A bro: AE Wakefield lives in Ashtabula. Service will be Thurs afternoon at the family home. Burial will be in the family lot in Kinsman Cem.
