He attended the district schools & Green High School, graduating in 1905 or 1906. He then attended Youngstown Business College & in 1907started work as a payroll clerk for General Fireproofing Co-Youngstown. Through the years he held various positions there. He was named Manager of Contract Sales in 1931. During that time, he became acquainted with former US President HarryS Truman, who at that time, was acting chairman of the Jackson Cnty MO Courthouse which was equipped with General Fireproofing steel furniture. Claude was named assistant manager of the Dealer sales department in 1936. In 1947, he was selected as member of the National Stationers & Office Equipment Assn speakers Troupe & was presented a certificate of merit. In 1950, he was appointed a district manager & served in that capacity until 1955. He traveled a great deal & was made a member of the United A! irlines 100,000 Mile Club. He was also a member of the Midwest Travelers club, the Northwest Travelers club & the Great LakesTravelers club. He would "just as soon fly as take a streetcar." On 1 Mar 1957, he completed 50yrs service with the General Fireproofing Co; to help celebrate his day of days, employees at the home office gave a party, presenting him with a cake, fifty yellow roses & a beautiful gold Atmos Century clock. His hobbies: "Serving General Fireproofing Dealers" & rooting for Cleveland Indians or giving them hell. On 7 Oct 1909, he married Lela Betts of Kinsman. To them were born 2 children, MarcenaMae on 21 Jun 1912 & RichardLee on 24 Nov 1929. Claude died 2 Apr 1958 & Lela on 5 Jul 1961. They are buried in KinsmanCem the lot with her parents, Charles & Mary Betts & near the lot where his parents lie. OBIT: OH-Warren Tribune 06 Jul 1961 LELA ALLEN: BethesdaMD; 71, while visiting friends in Youngstown, MrsClaude Allen died Wed morn of a heart attack & was pronounced dead at SouthSide Hosp-Youngstown. She was born 2 Jun 1890 in Kinsman, a dau of Charles & Mary Bush Betts & was a member of Belmont Methodist Church when she resided for some years in Youngstown. Her husband ClaudeW Allen an official with General Fireproofing Co, died 4 Apr 1958. She has been living with her son & dau since the death of her husband. She is survived by a dau: MrsMarlenaMae Truelson-BethesdaMD; a son Richard Allen-LexingtonKY & 1 granddau LeeAnn Allen. Services are Sat afternoon from Shriver-Allison NorthSide Funeral Home & burial will be in KinsmanCem.
