That is a good idea. I would like to talk to Alexander Stoddard. He died 15 July 1896 in Johnston [Twp., Trumbull Co., Ohio] (volume 3 of the Trumbull County, Ohio Death Records, page 238). I'm trying to find information about Alexander Stoddard's wife. She gave birth to a son (Walter Scott Stoddard) on 30 Nov 1850 in Youngstown, Mahoning Co. Ohio. I suspect she died in childbirth. In the 1850 census 24 year old Alexander was listed in Youngstown, profession coal miner. His wife was not listed with him in this census record. On Alexander's death there was an obituary in the Warren Weekly Tribune Warren, Ohio, Friday Morning July 24, 1896 which reads in part: "... his remains taken to Youngstown for burial beside his wife whose death occurred several years ago." While in America Alexander spelled his name Stoddard. In Scotland it was spelled Stoddart, and Alexander's parents spelled it Stodhart. When they came to America Alexander's family called themselves Stodart. Thanks for asking. Peter Stoddard [email protected] 916-501-4078
