He was born 21 Sep 1877 in Mercer County, a son of Absalom & Mary Jane Wean Bates, he had worked as a painter & was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Estelle; a dau-MrsHelen Downing-Delaware; 2 sis: MrsMF Geyer-Kinsman; MrsStella Fonner-Williamsfield & 4 grandchildren. The body is at Ramsey Bennett Brown Funeral Home where services will be held Tues night with RevGlenn Warner officiating. Graveside serivce will be held Wed afternoon & burial will be in Kinsman Cem. OBIT: OH-Warren Tribune 14 Dec 1959 ESTELLE BATES: Delaware-formerly Kinsman: 81, died Sat afternoon at Jane Case Hosp-Delaware following a 5 month illness. She was born in Kinsman 22 May 1878 & had lived in Delaware for the past 37 years. Her husband Edward, died in 1955. Surviving are 2 children: Helen Downing-Delaware; Harold-Cincinnati & 4 grandchildren. Bennett Brown Funeral Home-Delaware is in charge of arrangements. Graveside service will be held Wed afternoon at Kinsman Cem.
