Just tried posting to the Trumbull County message board and got an error message, twice, so I've just joined this Trumbull County mailing hoping to find some help with my research. I've hit a brick wall with the following couple and wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions for finding their parents names. This is what I know so far: John M. Stewart, born Nov. 23, 1819 in Trumbull County, Ohio; died in 1894 in Clay County, Iowa. married (October 05, 1842 in Trumbull County, Ohio) to Lucy F. Andrews, born 1820 in Trumbull County, Ohio; died 1904 in Clay County, Iowa. From "The 1879 History of Madison County, Iowa": "Stewart, John M., farmer, Sec. 13, Jackson Twp, Winterset, born in Trumbull Co, Ohio, Nov. 23, 1819, came to this county in July 1874, own 200 acres of land; married Lucy Andrews in 1841; she was born in same county; has five children: Elizabeth Hannah., Frank M., Charles C., Curtis B., and Joel Hart." Marriage date conflicts with the entry from the "Trumbull County Ohio Marriage Records Index 1800-1900," by the Trumbull County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society, 2000. This entry gives October 5, 1942 as their marriage date. In the 1850 Ohio census, John's age is listed as 31 and Lucy is 30. Lovina is the only child listed and her age is 5. They are household number 17 on page 349 or 175? They are living in Brookfield Twp. in District 164. (Where is District 164?) The 1860 Ohio census lists John at 48 years of age, Lucy 47, Lavina 14, H.E. 6, F.W. at 2 years of age. Any suggestions on how I can find out who John and Lucy's parents were. Their youngest son's middle name was Hart, so I'm wondering if there might be a connection to a Hart family. Also, I'm thinking their oldest child, Lavina/Lovina died in Trumbull County as she is not listed in the Iowa reference. Thanks for any advice! Chris Beck [email protected]
