Often, that significantly reduces the number of records you have to search through, especially when it reveals they were born in a place other than the state where they resided in the census. > > I would suggest you go to the 1850 census and search for the surname with that place of birth, and living in Trumbull County. Then, narrow your search even further by seeing if those heads of house were also in Trumbull County about 1840, close to the time their children married each other. > > Unfortunately, I don't have access at home to census records for 1830-1850, but I have 1860 for Trumbull Co OH. > > STEWART - A possible candidate for John's father is a Robert Stewart, age 69, in Brookfield Twp, born PA. There were other Stewarts age 60+ in the county who were born in PA, but Robert is the only one listed in Brookfield. He might be John's father or uncle. > > ANDREWS - There are three heads of house in the 1860 index for Trumbull Co who were born CT, all too young to be her father. However, one or more could be a sibling. For example, an Andrew Andrews, age 45, "drover", born CT is listed in Vienna Twp. with a daughter named Lucy, possibly a family name. Just speculation, but if it turns out Andrew was a brother of Lucy, you would be looking for a migration of an Andrews family from CT to Trumbull Co OH between 1815-1820. It's possible Lucy's father was deceased by 1860, or maybe removed to another location. > > I didn't search further, but wanted to give you some idea on how you might proceed. If you can find a kind soul who will do lookups in the 1850 census for you, try to find a match for surname/place of birth/estimated age. Then you can work backwards in time, searching census and land records - and forward in time searching for wills, probate records, etc. > > Finally, have you located death certificates for John and Lucy in Iowa? They might also provide names of their parents. > > Others on the mailing list might have other suggestions, or access to additional records. Most good-sized community libraries provide access to sites such as ancestryplus (the library version of ancestry.com) and heritage quest - both excellent census record sites. I've hit a brick wall with the following couple and wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions for finding their parents names. This is what I know so far: > > > > John M. They are household number 17 on page 349 or 175? They are living in Brookfield Twp. in District 164. Their youngest son's middle name was Hart, so I'm wondering if there might be a connection to a Hart family. Also, I'm thinking their oldest child, Lavina/Lovina died in Trumbull County as she is not listed in the Iowa reference. > > > > Thanks for any advice! > > > > Chris Beck > > [email protected] > > > > > > ==== OHTRUMBU Mailing List ==== > > NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal.
