Linda, Would you be so kind as to look for Joseph Roath and Fanny Welsh, 1808; also Lorenzo Roath and Sarah Wood , 1830. Thank you very much for your time invested in doing this for us all. Hannah
Don't be sorry - it was a wonderful read! Would you mind to look through your books for any notations on the surname Burnside/ Burnsides? I am coming up to the area in September but would like to have a "heads up" on what I may be able to find. The only thing I really know is that a John Burnside was kicked by a horse and died in 1885. I have a little obit that the library sent me but surely there must be more info available about all the Burnsides that lived in Trumbull. Hope you have a speedy recovery and thanks for your help! Hi Jackie, Only family that I know of in Indiana is in DeKalb Co. When we finally got our kids off to college, my husband decided that it was time to travel, aside from all those camping trips with the kids. He kept bring home maps and I kept telling him that I wanted to go to Fairmount and visit the grave of Jimmy Dean. He finally gave up and made motel reservations as close as he could and I told everyone at work that I was going to visit Jimmy Dean's grave. I had always called him Jimmy. Well the reaction from the young folk at work was unbelievable. They of course thought that I was talking about the sausage king, I do like his sausage, but to my knowledge he is still alive at that time. The doctors that I worked with had diagnosed me as a benign psychotic many years before, and this just added to it. A couple of them were even old enough to know whom I was talking about. We settled in at a Comfort Inn, closest that we could get to Fairmount. Spent most of the afternoon at the Museum that had not been opened for not that long at the time and I understand that it is now closed. We went up to the grave yard and I took my pictures, we went through town, so I could take more pictures, and of course shots of the Winslow farm. Next morning we went to the Grant County museum and I found out even more interesting things about this beautiful area. Jimmy's English teacher was still living at the time, did not get to meet her, but talked to a lot of people that knew her well. They were tearing down the high school in Fairmount and I wanted my husband to get me a brick, he gave the usually look, until he saw that they were selling the bricks for $25 at the museum gift shop, I got my brick right off the pile near the high school. The other thing that I found out was that there was a covered bridge in Grant county so we had to go find it so that I could photograph it, this started a whole new set of trips to counties that have a lot of covered bridges and yes we have been to Park county. With the acceptations of Ashtabula Co. Ohio, states seem to want to have all their covered bridges painted the same color, which I don't find interesting for photographing. I have been aware of the James Dean Festival in Fairmount for a number of years, but prefer to go when everyone else is not there, kind of like the covered bridges festivals in the fall each year. I really have no idea why Dean had such an impact on my life, I was barely a teen when he was killed, but it did. I had to visit that grave and see the church where so many people gathered for his funeral, wonder where they all stayed? My best friend and I, we went thought nursing school together 35 years ago, that makes you tight, plus a lot of funerals, marriages, divorces, births, just life experiences, have wanted to make a solo trip to the grave for a number of years, but one of the above mentioned, seems to get in the way. We are still talking about it. Don't know what is left to see accept the grave, I understand the #3 tombstone is back, but it is about a three hour drive from here and fall would be a nice time to go. I have far reached my limit of relatives dying in the last year, I am near 2 weeks out from my last heart procedure, so should get my driving privileges back soon, an can't start cardiac rehab until the cardiologist gets back from vacation, so we are looking for dates to make this long planned trip. If there is anything else that we should see, let me know. I so have a number of Trumbull county history books, grave inscriptions, the marriages you know about, let me know if there is anything else that I can look up for you as I am still limited as to what I can do and reading is allowed. Hi Jim, Unfortunately the parents of the bride and groom are not given if they are of the age of majority and if not, it is usually the father and sometimes the name is not even the same and the person not IDed. All I can suggest is that you check census report for 1860 or maybe 70 and see if you can find the family listed. They certainly were born soon after the marriage, first child born in about a year, followed in a little over 2 years, natural spacing. What does the obit say about his children. Bibles can be confusing, they knew what they were recording, but 150 years later it is not always clear. Only reason I included Cora was because it was close to Cornelia, and could have been a nick name, I know it should not be used, but after years of these research I know it is.
