It has been known from in the family, that William became Mayor of Niles, I believe there were letters around at one time. I just wondered what the family was doing to-day, but it appears that probably there is no-one left in the USA, unless William had a family!Thank you for the e.mail address, I will try and have a look!! You may wish to try in Mahoning County, which is adjacent to Trumbull. Youngstown is the County seat, and was a major steel center for the better part of a century. "Howard" may have been a stationary engineer in one of the mills there since I was unable to locate him in Trumbull County in 1910. Author: daw640 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.trumbull/5111.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It's beginning to look like there are no grandchildren of William and Frances Hooper ADAMS THOMAS. We know from both the 1900 and 1910 Censuses that there were only 3 surviving children: Helena, William R, and Frank H. Frank Hooper THOMAS died 19 August, 1910 at age 26. He was single. Frances Hooper ADAMS THOMAS died 10 March, 1913 at age 63. William Richard THOMAS died 28 October, 1916 at age 42. He had been married for 9 years, but had no children as of 1910. Helena's husband, William B TAYLOR died 8 April, 1916 at age 48. They had been married for 19 years, but again had no children in 1910 after 12 years of marriage. William F THOMAS died 22 March, 1932 about three weeks before turning 88. So it appears that only Annie may have had children before dying prior to 1900. As I mentioned previously, I'll confirm these likelihoods via obituaries when I get to Trumbull County. Dave Williams Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: daw640 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.trumbull/5111.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Attached is the William Thomas family in 1900. The reference is: 1900 Ohio, Trumbull Co., Niles, Ward 2; Enumeration District 127, sheet 4B. As you can see, Frances had 4 children at the time, but only 3 are living. So it would seem that one of the daughters did not survive. There are 3 Ann THOMASes and one Anna listed in the Trumbull County Marriage Record Index in the late 19th Century. One of these may be the correct one. There is also an Ellena (Elenor) listed who was married to William TAYLOR (both of Niles) on 23 November 1897 by Asa Appleton Abbott, Minister of the Gospel. This may very well be the correct (H)Ellena. The certificate is in volume 11, page 349. You may be able to get further information on the marriage here: http://www.archives.co.trumbull.oh.us/ An interesting detail is that the family apparently returned to Wales for a time around 1883, since Frank was born there in February 1884 and immigrated to the US in 1885. As you no doubt know, working from farther in the past to the present can be very difficult. This is especially true if the later generations moved away from the "home town". Nevertheless, the Trumbull County Marriage Record Index lists the marriage of William R THOMAS and Catherine I O'CONNELL on 1 January, 1907. The certificate is in volume 15 on page 511. William and Catherine (Katherine) appear in the 1910 Census: 1910 Ohio, Trumbull Co., Weathersfield Twp., Niles, Ward 2, 16 Erie St.; ED 244, sheet 9A. They have no children at this time. A quick look does not locate them in either 1920 or 1930. I may be in Trumbull County next week and shall pursue this further. It would have taken place between 1910 and 1920, and was a second marriage for both. I don't know Sarah's maiden name. He was born in 1868, she was born around 1870, if that helps to narrow the list of candidates. Many thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Unfortunately the marriage you're seeking is not listed in the Trumbull County Marriage Record Index. I searched for HARTMAN, HARDTMAN(N), HEARTMAN, HORTMAN, HURTMAN, and ARTMAN without success. Author: daw640 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.trumbull/5118.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Your first step should be to check for a marriage certificate at the Trumbull County Archives here: http://www.archives.co.trumbull.oh.us/ If the couple were married in Trumbull County, that should give you the names of each set of parents. You can then check for a marriage certificate for Kathryn's parents in Pennsylvania after determining where they lived. This should be possible from an earlier Census once you've learned the family name. Pennsylvania began requiring licenses to marry in October, 1885. I hope this helps you.
