Horace Bentley b 1803 in Portland NY in 1803. In 1830 he is living in Chautauqua, NY, married no children. He married Mary LILLEY 11/10/1827. Do marriage records exist for this time frame? I would presume they married in chautauqua. They had the following children - Polly M. b. 1830 in Mayville, NY, Daniel b. 1833 Chautauqua, NY and Eliza b 1836 in Ohio. In 1840 they lived inGustuvus, Trumbell Co., Ohio. thank you. Barb
Hi, I'm a new subscriber and would like to let you know which family lines in Trumbull County I am researching. I have information to share on the following Trumbull families: Loveless, Cory, Rice, Brockway, Bushnell, Hayes, Jones, Yale, Borden, Banning, Waite, Brainard, Andrews, Phillips I have a couple of books from Trumbull; one is called "The Greene Story; 1817-1963" by Mary Case Hoskins about the village of Greene in Trumbull. It is not indexed but contains photos and lots of information. I'd be happy to correspond with anyone from that area and I hope to eventually post this book to a web site as it is not copyrighted. The other book I have is "Trumbull County Ohio Newspaper Obituary Abstracts 1812-1870." I'd be happy to do lookups, but please be specific and patient as I have many obligations including a couple family lists, a newsletter, a couple of websites, kids, and a job or two! I've just recently posted my great-great-grandfather's Civil War diary and letters to the internet. He was in the 6th OH Cavalry out of Trumbull; his name was Dwight H. Cory. Many others from the area are mentioned in the letters and diary. You can find this site at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lovelace/cory.htm. Hope to hear from you! In a message dated 98-11-18 19:49:18 EST, Marty Smith writes: << I, too, am researching a Matthews family in Trumbull County, OH. My family includes the following: John born in Wales; married to Frances born in 1811 in Wales. Children of John and Frances Matthews that I know of are as follows: Benjamin born in 1850 in Wales; Margaret A born in 1855 in Wales, immigrated to the US in 1866, married Thomas R Roberts in 1872, had 11 children, died in 1917; and Evan born in 1859 in Wales. If you should come across any of my family, I'd appreciate knowing. I live in Hermitage, PA which is just next to Trumbull & Mahoning Counties in OH and have some excellent sources, but I didn't come across your specific Matthews people. Marty Smith >> Hello Marty, I believe there were two John Matthews living in Trumbull Co., OH about the same time, at any rate I've seen what I believe to be two different lines. . . The one I'm researching is . . . John Matthews/Mathews b. abt. 1818 Wales - d. Aft. 1880 Trumbull Co. m. @1844 Wales to Hannah Jones (b. abt. 1823 Wales - d. aft. 1880 Trumbull Co.) Is on the 1870-1880 census living in Hubbard, Trumbull Co. Children from census, death certs, mortality index and Benjamin's pension ap: 1. Benjamin Matthews - b. 23 Feb 1845 Tradager, Wales m. 11 Jan 1868 Trumbull Co. to Marion Evans (Civil War vet) 2. John Mathews - b. 1848 N. Wales - d. 13 Aug 1871 Hubbard, Trumbull Co. - killed in coal bank. 3. Mary J. Matthews - b. abt 1853 PA m. abt. 1872 Trumbull Co. to Richard Williams (on 1880 cen next to parents) 4. James Matthews - b. abt 1856 Ohio 5. Margaret Matthews - b. abt.1859 b. Ohio 6. Anna Matthews - b. abt. 1862 Ohio - m. abt 1879 Hubbard to James Beilton 7. William Penn Matthews - b. 8 Sept 1867 Trumbull Co., OH - d. 8 Nov 1943 Cuyahoga Co., OH m. Ellen Rouan abt 1890 in Mahoning Co. (my line) 8. Thomas Matthews - b. abt 1870 Trumbull Co., OH I have looked at index of immigration and naturalization, suspect Philidelphia abt. 1850-1852 a likely entry time and spot and there are several John Mathews/Matthews to choose from. The overwhelming number of John Matthews on the 1860 census in PA scares me off. The other TO: e-mail is Sue Brown who is desc from Benjamin and has supplied some of the dates and information on this family. (Hi Sue :-) It is interesting the naming similarities in the two lines. Thanks for the response. (Smith line is from John Smith & wife Mary who settled Columbiana, OH abt. 1809 - their son Henry Smith m. Leah Wollam 1820 and moved 1850 to Ashland, OH) Pamela Geisler Smith, Gresham, OR
Hello, I'm new to this list and would like to post my area of research. My husband's family from Trumbull Co. are John and Hannah Matthews who migrated from Wales through PA to the Hubbard area of Trumbull Co. Their son William Penn Matthews m. Ellen Rouan abt 1890 in Youngstown and lived there. Their son, William Penn Matthews jr. m. to Josephine Palmiter, a daughter of Luman Palmiter and Margaret Alice Bell. Luman Palmiter was a son of Silas Avery Palmiter and Catherine Deforest Coon who lived in Brookfield, Trumbull Co. and Sandy Lake, Mercer Co. PA. I would like to learn more about these families and their other children and would be happy to exchange information. Pamela Geisler Smith, Gresham, OR

Gretchen, >From the way your message was formatted, I couldn't tell if you were researching James DUNBAR or James Dunbar THOMPSON. I'm asking because DUNBAR is one of the surnames that I am researching in Trumbull county. :-) Also, we will be having the chats each week on Sunday at 8:00 PM EST, so there's always a chance to join us in the future. You could also visit the Trumbull County GenWeb page, and register your surnames by placing them in a message on the Query Forum. Hallo, I'm searching for the marriage of David VAUGHN or VAUGHAN to Sarah ? This would have been around 1900, and possibly in Niles, Trumbull Co. Ohio, where they were living in 1910. I copied some information on this Thomas Thompson (mostly his descendants) last week at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. If you give me your address, I'll send you a copy. If anyone can provide more information, I would be interested, as I feel that my ancester, James Dunbar Thompson, is somehow related, since two of his children have similar names as does Thomas' and he is also from Hartford Cty, CT. James' wife was Kate Alderman, whose parents were from Simsbury/Farmington, CT and also went to Trumbull Cty in 1804. The librarian suggested that perhaps my James is Thomas' nephew and traveled with his uncle and his family. I've also forwarded this to the OHTrumbull Cty Mailing List. Hopefully, someone will be able to help us. ---------- > From: Captwo3@aol.com > To: THOMPSON-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [THOMPSON-L] Thomas THOMPSON in CT > Date: Monday, November 02, 1998 10:00 PM > > To all, > The following is from: > > Historical Collections of Mahoning Valley, Ohio > > "SETH PERKINS, of Kinsman, was born in Hartland, Hartford County, Conn., > February 29, 1780.
