Edddie, I worked with a Vaughn who has traced family history for VAUGHANs and VAUGHNs. He told me his family had come from Canada and had found a lot of both in Canada during a recent return there (Ontario, I believe). I don't know if I can communicate with him because he has retired as have I and I don't know if he has an email address. Keep mine so when you return you can email me back. By the way, I came from Youngstown, OH which is just across the state line from New Castle. I live in North Carolina, so I can't do any lookups in New Castle. Ed Hagan Raleigh, NC PS> Maybe you can help me with my wife's family when you return. She has a Morton who was a music hall performer in England and New York. > > Subject: Bye For Now - and thanks > Date: Fri, 18 Dec 1998 19:14:15 +0000 > From: emb4@tutor.open.ac.uk (Eddie Bennett) > To: OHTRUMBU-L@rootsweb.com > > Just a note to say I am unsubbing from all my Ohio and Pennsylvania lists > and going off to seek some sun in Portugal over Christmas. > > I would like to thank everyone who has helped me over the past few months. > A number of individuals have been really good. Just a note to say I am unsubbing from all my Ohio and Pennsylvania lists and going off to seek some sun in Portugal over Christmas. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me over the past few months. A number of individuals have been really good. I can't say which list they came from, as I copied my requests across all of the ones you can see listed. I have now established that James VAUGHAN has not been found in the censuses of 1900 or 1910 in either State. In 1920 he was in New Castle, Lawrence Co. Pennsylvania, and he died there. I suppose I'll now have to try a different State, and New York seems promising as an alternative point of entry (he emigrated to the US for Wales in 1895). Thanks again, and bye for now. Rob, > Sorry, to bother the listers with this non-genealogy questions, > but my mother recently passed away and > she had asked me to see if I could fine Ed and Pauline or any of > their family. I'm sorry to hear about your mother. There are several places online for finding addresses and phone numbers. Be sure when searching to check for any variations i.e. both Ed and Edward and Pauline, etc. Here are a few search engines: Lycos WhoWhere People Searcher http://www.whowhere.lycos.com/ Yahoo People Finder http://people.yahoo.com/ Switchboard http://www.switchboard.com/ I hope you find your family friends, Kay Schaney
Hello .... My name is Robert Curtis - born and raised in Cambridge, Guernsey Co, Oh. I am seeking to find information on the family of Ed and Pauline (Davis) RASP. They had a least two children Sandra who I know graduated from HS in 1953 and a son...not sure of his name. Last contact I or my parents - James Leonard and Mary Elizabeth (Burris) Curtis had any contact with anyone from this family was in 1953 when graduation pictures were exchanged between myself and Sandra. We had been school friends until her family moved to Trumball Co....sometime, I believe in the 1940s. My mother and father were close friends of Ed and Pauline and some contact may have gone on between them, but I am not sure. I left Cambridge and joined the US Air Force in 1953....and remained in the service for almost 30 years. My search over the past few years have let me to some RASPs in Newton Falls.....I had always been told the family moved to Guyahugo Falls. I now believe it was actually Newton Falls - mainly because the graduation picture I was given had the name of a studion in Warren, OH. Sorry, to bother the listers with this non-genealogy questions, but my mother recently passed away and she had asked me to see if I could fine Ed and Pauline or any of their family. I can be reached via my e-mail address: << RobCurtis@prodigy.net >> or my snail mail address at: Robert Curtis, 1906 Harpers Ferry, San Antonio, Tx 78245-2016. Again, I apologize for intruding on the list, but I thank each of you and wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Going thru old notes I came across this from an Ann Landers article from 11/12/1996, which I thought was interesting - hope you all do too. If you are a member of the Jewish faith, your religion was founded by Abraham about 4000 years ago. If you are Hindu your religion developed in India around 1500 BC If you are Buddhist, your religion split from Hinduism and was founded by Buddha, prince Siddhartha Guatama of India, abt 500 BC If you are Roman Catholic, Jesus Christ began your religion in the year 33 If you are Islamic, Mohammed started your religion in what is now Saudi Arabia around AD600. If you are Eastern Orthodox, your sect separated from Roman Catholicism around the year 1000. If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by martin Luther, an ex-monk in the Catholic church, in 1517. If you belong to the Church of England (Anglican) your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 534 because the pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry. If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded when John Knox brought the teachings of John Calvin to Scotland in year 1560. If you are Unitarian, your religious group developed in Europe in the 1500s. If you are a Congregationalist, your religion branched off from Puritanism in the early 1600s in England If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1607. If you are a Methodist, your religion was founded by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744. If you are Episcopalian, your religion was brought over from England to the American colonies and formed a separate religion founded by Samuel Seabury in 1789. If you are a Mormon (Latter-Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your church in Palmyra, NY in 1830. If you worship with the Salvation Army (yes, its a religious group too) your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865. If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year your religion was founded by Mary Baker Eddy. If you are a Jehovah's Witness your religion was founded by Charles Taze Russell in Pennsylvania in the 1870s If you are Pentecostal, your religion was started in the United States in 1901 Creators Syndicate
RE: CARTERS IN OHIO Christmas Greeting to you - this obituary was sent to me my father a few years ago, I don't know what paper it was from: OLDEST RESIDENT OF NILES IS DEAD Friday April 16, 1908 Mrs Truth Carter, widow of the late Thomas Carter, died yesterday afternoon at 7'oclock in the Carter home in Main Street in which she had lived the past 40 years. At the time of her death, the deceased was the oldest resident of this city, being in her 84th year. She was of English parentage and descent and was born in Birmingham, England in 1825, the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Brettelle, the parents never coming to this country. It was said of her that in truth she had lived a life symbolic of her girlhood's name, Truth: more than this could be said of none. Of ten children born to them (Truth and Thomas Carter), but four remain, and all have lived in close proximaty to the widowed mother. They are Edwin of Warren, Thomas of First Street, William B., Park Avenue and Charles J. Carter, the last three members of the Carter Brothers foundry, one of the oldest business concerns in the city. This is an abreviated form of the obit, and I would love to hear from anyone with any information on the Carters or Brettelles. Also anything about the Carter Brothers foundry. Thank you, Michelle Morton Bondella@s054.aone.net.au

Hi, I'm looking for information on the Christman family and descendants, who were located in West Salem Twp, Mercer County, PA about a quarter mile from the Ohio (Trumbull Co) border. My line is Johann Jacob Christman and his two wives. They are buried in the Good Hope Cemetery in West Salem Twp. I have been to the cemetery, but am trying to wrap up some loose ends, and determine whether there are more descendants from this line. Their story is a little convoluted, his wives being sisters. This is the best I can piece it together: Susanna Vogeli was born 5 aug 1784 probably Lehigh Co, PA, and died 29 mar 1847, in Mercer Co, PA. Sarah Vogeli was born 29 may 1792 in Macungie, Lehigh Co, PA, died 9 apr 1862, Mercer Co, PA. Susanna married Johann Jacob Christman on 14 Oct 1803 in Longswamp Church, Weissenberg Twp, Lehigh Co, PA. Sarah married Johann Jacob's brother Johann George Christman, probably around 1810. Jacob and Susanna subsequently moved to West Salem Twp, Mercer Co, PA along with several other families from that area of Lehigh Co. George died 12 dec 1840 in Lower Macungie Twp, Lehigh Co, PA. Susanna died 29 Mar 1847 in Mercer Co. Sarah (George's widow) married Jacob (Susanna's widower). Sarah died 9 Apr 1862 in Mercer Co, and Jacob died the next month, 22 May 1862. All three are interred in Good Hope Cemetery, West Salem Twp, Mercer Co, PA, Jacob between Sarah and Susanna. The headstones are in German script. Doug Hill ccapdh@worldnet.att.net
