    1. Edwards, Ballard
    2. Minder
    3. I'm looking for information about Sarah Jane Ballard who married Ebenezer Edwards about 1840 in Trumbull Co., possibly around Mineral Ridge. I would like to find someone who would be willing to get a copy of the marriage license or at least the name of the church, if there is one. They were coal-miners and lived in the Mineral Ridge area until the spring of 1857 when they migrated to Henry Co., IL. I believe there were several families from that area that moved together. Maybe the Ague family?? TIA, Kathy Minder Geneseo, IL

    1. Re: Vernon, OH
    2. Al, Lisa, Matt, Michelle, or Luke
    3. I guess I should explain. I was checking the internet white pages for Black listings in Vernon, OH. The search came up with no results, so I thought that Vernon listings may be included under a bigger city's listings. (Such as my township is not listed in the telephone book separately, they are generally grouped under "Pittsburgh") Last month I sent out letters to several people in Meadville, PA asking if they happened to be related to my gggrandmother. I figured, what do I have to lose? A few weeks later a package arrived in the mail. A very nice gentleman had sent me a family study that his daughter had compiled for a college course. I have since connected my gggrandmother to this line and, with his wonderful gift, now have my lineage back to the Mayflower and beyond. I know that this may be a crazy way to get information, but it worked the first time. I was hoping to get listings of BLACK residents in Vernon, OH to send more letters out. When I was prompted for a city name in the white pages search, Vernon produced no results. Should I try Warren, then look for the area codes? Know of an easier way? Thanks for your help. Lisa

    1. Mt Nebo
    2. Have done extensive research on a ggGrandfather Christian Krimmer b. abt 1817 and his brother Gottlieb Krimmer b. abt 1823 and their sister Caroline Krimmer b. 1833, all in born inOberweissach, Backnang, Germany. They lived in and around Hubbard, OH from the middle 1800s into the 20th century. Records from the Grace Lutheran Church in Hubbard show that the first 3 children of Christian, Wilhelm, Caroline and Louise born between 1852 and 1856 were born in a place called Mount Nebo. I assume Mount Nebo existed somewhere around Hubbard but have been unable to determine where it was located. Other children were born in Mason City, a "coal town" that existed for a while north of Hubbard. Thanks for any input. 2. Marv Miller
    3. Hi-- I am new to the list. I am researching my great-grandfather, Howard D. Thompson, who was b. 11 Jul 1845 in Vernon, Trumbull Co. His parents were James (L.?) Thompson, b. c1827 in Pennsylvania and Martha or Harriet Clark. Howard D. married Esther Belinda Walters 1 Jan 1874 in Gustavus, Trumbull Co. A few more details are available on my web page. I have quite a bit of information on the Walters side of this family and almost nothing on the Thompsons. Any information or leads greatly appreciated. 1. Marrage license question
    2. Linda & John
    3. Hi All I have just received a Marriage License application for a sibling of my ancestor in Trumbull Co. The application was made by someone else-a name I have never seen in connection with my family & also different from the intended wife's maiden name. Does anyone know who would legally have been allowed to apply for a marriage license for another couple. The application says the bride & groom are both of legal age so they didn't need someone to apply for them. The people involved are Robert BOYD m Julia DOWNY or DOWNE (have sent for her death record so maybe can clear up her name later) The person who applied was a Amos RUDISELL or RUDESILL. License 3 Sept 1870; marriage 20 Sept 1870 Any ideas or similar experiences? Linda Phoenix AZ

    1. Ohio orphan Silas Davis, c 1823
    2. Is there anyone in the list tracking my family line? I've run into several brick walls tracking my ggg-grandfather and his family. I'm looking for information on Silas Davis, born about 1818 or 1819 in Ohio. The long version: According to the 1880 Census for Vermillion Cty, Indiana, Silas Davis was born in Ohio, his father was from Maryland, and his mother from Virginia. Unfortunately, by 1823, Silas was an orphan, and moved to Indiana. Apparently, he travelled with another child, Washington Potter, and the Potter family; and Silas' daughter Emily eventually married Washington Potter's son Rollin. We have possible links for Potter family (John Potter and Lucy Sharp) in several counties, most notably Highland and Preble; there are large collections of Davis families in several counties, like Highland and Delaware; and there's only one John Potter in the 1820 Ohio Census, in Trumbull County. So I'm poking through the files of those counties, looking for possible links to research. What I'm looking for: --A Davis from Maryland, who married a Virginia woman, moved to Ohio before 1818, and died by 1823; or --Court papers granting custody of 5-year old Silas Davis to the Potters or another family that travelled with them (some possible names are Blair, Strange, Malone, Clements, Shannon, Skaggs, Meredith, Price); or --Any possible Davis links I can research looking for a connection to Silas. Thanks for any hints, links, tips, etc, from the list members, and good luck with your own searches. -=Allan Davis=- adavis@mail.sunhealth.org

    2. Ellis,Mark
    3. Hello Everyone, I am looking for information about my g.g. grandparents Clarence F. Scott and Emma Matthews. Clarence was born sometime around 1848 in Ohio. Clarence's father was born in Pennsylvania. His wife's name was Emma Matthews. Emma and her father were born in England and her mother was born in Ohio. My g.grandfather Charles Earl Scott was born around 1885 in Lincoln, NE and Clarence Scott lived in Lincoln, NE until his death. Clarence died sometime between 1910 and 1915. Besides my g. grandfather Charles Earl Scott, there was also another son named Ralph and three daughters Nettie, Hattie, and Eva. One of Charles' sisters was married to a Chief of Police or Sheriff in Billings, Montana Val Lechner. She had supposedly done genealogy on the family. But, I don't know if she ever posted it anywhere. There may be an obituary for Clarence in the Lincoln, NE area, although the Nebraska Vital Records Dept was unable to find a Death Certificate. His wife Emma died sometime before 1910. I wish to find out any information such as parents, where he was born, etc. Thanks for the help. Mark S. Ellis R.T.
