It is a special offer for the chat participants. Hope to see you in the chat! Mary Ann Hetrick
Hi List During a recent trip to Trumbull Co I visited the Warren Library & obtained an obit for my ancestor Robert BOYD in the Western Reserve Democrat of Fri 8 Aug 1890. Now in this obit it mentions that the previous weeks paper-which would be Aug 1 1890-mentions his illness. The copy of that week's newspaper is not available at the library-genealogist says it means they never received a copy to put on microfiche. My question is does anyone know of another source for older Trumbull Co newspapers that I might be able to access. I'd love to read the piece about my ancestors illness. Other Trumbull co names mentioned on the page I have are Judge GILLMER, Ann KERNS, Peter GARTNER, Mrs Tim ROSS, Dr BROCKETT, BUELL, Mark W & Ward L DUNCAN, CB CARLTON, Richard LAWSON. If any are familiar to another researcher let me know & I'll send a copy of the piece-these are just short news items not necessarily obits. Hi All The map book I mentioned in a previous post is The Official Street Atlas of Youngstown, Mahoning & Trumbull Counties. It also includes Salem Ohio; Sharon, Farrell, Sharpsville, Wheatland, West Middlesix, Pa. Now I bought my copy ($4.95-won't break anyone's budget) while I was in Warren Ohio at a Revco Drugstore. Anyone living in the area or nearby could probably find it at any larger Drugstore or possibly a K-Mart or Wal Mart or similar type of store. For those who live elsewhere the book is produced by Commercial Survey Co 203 Caxton Building 812 Huron Road Cleveland Ohio 44116 phone 216 771-3995 fax 216 771-3998 This book is labeled as Map No 712-0 These maps have been a great resource for me & I recommend it highly. The Research Room of the Warren Library also has a copy available. Linda Phoenix AZ ---------- > From: V.G. If there is anyone out there with an 1870 Census of Trumbull County or birth records for Trumbull county I would greatly appreciate a lookup for the following people. I'm looking for a birth record for Charles Homer McNemar 1869, Mother Lydia Margaret McNemar father unknown, any information would be greatly appreciated. I also need a lookup in the Trumbull county census for 1870 for the same people - Who were they living with, etc.. thanks don

I am forwarding this from a friend, it made me think about the holiday today. Mary Ann Listowner - -------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Claudette Rogers <southerngal@netzero.net> This was sent to one of my genealogy list and it really made me think... Claudette <<Saw this poem in a letter to the Editor of the West Side Leader (suburban Akron, Ohio), and it pretty well sums up why genealogists have such a soft spot in their hearts for old cemeteries. The Recording of a Cemetery by Thelma Greene Reagan Today we walked where others walked On a lonely, windswept hill; Today we talked where others cried For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled. Today our hearts were touched By graves of tiny babies; Snatched from the arms of loving kin, In the heartbreak of the ages. Today we saw where the grandparents lay In the last sleep of their time; Lying under the trees and clouds - Their beds kissed by the sun and wind. Today we wondered about an unmarked spot; Who lies beneath this hollowed ground? Was it a babe, child, young or old? No indication could be found. Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay. We had been here once before On a day we'd all like to forget, But will remember forever more. Today we recorded for kith and kin The graves of ancestors past; To be treasured for generations hence, A record we hope will last. Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend, For stones sometimes crumble to dust And generations of folks yet to come Will be grateful for your trust. Thanks to letter writer Peter Schueler, Sr., for caring enough about abandoned and neglected cemeteries to include this in his letter. It's powerful. Paul Morehouse>>
Greetings! I was wondering if there are cemetery records for Trumbull County where I could possibly determine a birth year for my ancestor Thomas Gillis who died in Kinsman, OH March 3, 1846? Would also be interested in corresponding with anyone descended from the Gillis and/or Mossman families who settled in Mercer County, PA and then Trumbull County, OH in the early 1800's. Best wishes on this day of remembrance, Tom --
Hi Lynnette I have a book of Trumbull Co Maps which I have used successfully to find cemetaries on at least 5 occasions-the latest being just several weeks ago. It does not give the names of the cemetaries but does mark where they are. As you know the names of the areas & from your description they appear to be rural areas, there will probably be only 1 or 2 cemetaries to pick from anyway. I could find the appropriate map pages & scan & send to you if someone who lives in the area is not able to give you more detailed directions. You might want the maps anyway-if you are like me you need all the help you can get. I have to stop along the way & check my maps to make sure I'm on the right track. Could someone please give me directions to the cemeteries in North Jackson and in Ellsworth? (I have an awful sense of directions, so baby steps, please!) I believe the cemetery name in North Jackson I need is Union Cemetery, but the only name I have for the one in Ellsworth is the "Village Cemetery". I will be coming to Trumbull and Mahoning counties next week for research, and will be travelling from northwestern Trumbull county (Southington) to find these cemeteries, that is, if I can find them! Thanks a bunch! Dear Sharon, and everyone who sent me their money for this book, I have received envlopes from some of you that have asked for my address but not everyones. This is why you haven't received your copies as of yet. I haven't cashed your checks yet either. Dear List folks, I tried to unsubscribe, (I'll be out of town for 4 weeks) but got my email returned. How do I go about signing off for a while? Nancy Hagen-Liddle

Hi, Brenda, Since 1908, records of births and deaths in Ohio have been maintained by the Division of Vital Statistics, Ohio Department of Health. You should also be able to obtain a copy of the birth record at the Probate Court of Trumbull County; I visited there and found birth records for which I was looking. I think I paid $1 for each copy. As for the courthouse burning, I think that was 1895, not later. Kathleen kmarsh@innet.com

Hi! I have a question...My grandfather, William BEATTY, was born in Trumbull County on 5 Apr 1921. According to family legend: when he went to join the Army to fight in WWII an aunt had to vouch for his age and birthdate because there was a fire in the Trumbull Co. Courthouse and his original birth certificate was destroyed. I was wondering if this was true. If not, I would like to obtain a copy of his birth certificate -- how would I go about doing that? I'd like to find out the middle name his mother gave him at birth -- he always went by William Edgar, but his aunt stated that it was William James. Thank you! Brenda
