The mayor has also announced a Bicentennial celebration next year. This will probably be the best time ever to visit Farmington's past. I will be probably heading up this event along with a few others and would like ANY ephemera or other historical or geneological information pertaining to Farmington. Photocopied would be fine!
Asa Andrews and Lucy Ackley b. CT had a daughter Lucy Fidelia Andrews b. 1804. Asa d. Hartford, Trumbull Co., OH in 1813. Schuyler Andrews son of Asa & Lucy had a daughter Lucy Fidelia. Schuyler d. 1829 Hartford, Trumbull Co., CT. Wells Andrews had a daughter Lucy. Wells is another son of Asa and Lucy. If you find your Lucy, please let me know the details. You get some good clues from the 1880 census of Madison Co IA free online at familysearch.org John Stewarts parents were both b. PA Lucys parents were both b. CT This is one of the first places I turn to when searching for identity of the parents of a person who was alive in the US in 1880, as it gives place of birth for parents of that person. Often, that significantly reduces the number of records you have to search through, especially when it reveals they were born in a place other than the state where they resided in the census. I would suggest you go to the 1850 census and search for the surname with that place of birth, and living in Trumbull County. Then, narrow your search even further by seeing if those heads of house were also in Trumbull County about 1840, close to the time their children married each other. Unfortunately, I dont have access at home to census records for 1830-1850, but I have 1860 for Trumbull Co OH. STEWART - A possible candidate for Johns father is a Robert Stewart, age 69, in Brookfield Twp, born PA. There were other Stewarts age 60+ in the county who were born in PA, but Robert is the only one listed in Brookfield. He might be Johns father or uncle. ANDREWS There are three heads of house in the 1860 index for Trumbull Co who were born CT, all too young to be her father. However, one or more could be a sibling. For example, an Andrew Andrews, age 45, drover, born CT is listed in Vienna Twp. with a daughter named Lucy, possibly a family name. Just speculation, but if it turns out Andrew was a brother of Lucy, you would be looking for a migration of an Andrews family from CT to Trumbull Co OH between 1815-1820. Its possible Lucys father was deceased by 1860, or maybe removed to another location. I didnt search further, but wanted to give you some idea on how you might proceed. If you can find a kind soul who will do lookups in the 1850 census for you, try to find a match for surname/place of birth/estimated age. Then you can work backwards in time, searching census and land records - and forward in time searching for wills, probate records, etc. Finally, have you located death certificates for John and Lucy in Iowa? They might also provide names of their parents. Others on the mailing list might have other suggestions, or access to additional records. Just tried posting to the Trumbull County message board and got an error message, twice, so I've just joined this Trumbull County mailing hoping to find some help with my research. I've hit a brick wall with the following couple and wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions for finding their parents names. This is what I know so far: John M. Stewart, born Nov. 23, 1819 in Trumbull County, Ohio; died in 1894 in Clay County, Iowa. married (October 05, 1842 in Trumbull County, Ohio) to Lucy F. Andrews, born 1820 in Trumbull County, Ohio; died 1904 in Clay County, Iowa. From "The 1879 History of Madison County, Iowa": "Stewart, John M., farmer, Sec. 13, Jackson Twp, Winterset, born in Trumbull Co, Ohio, Nov. 23, 1819, came to this county in July 1874, own 200 acres of land; married Lucy Andrews in 1841; she was born in same county; has five children: Elizabeth Hannah., Frank M., Charles C., Curtis B., and Joel Hart." Marriage date conflicts with the entry from the "Trumbull County Ohio Marriage Records Index 1800-1900," by the Trumbull County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society, 2000. This entry gives October 5, 1942 as their marriage date. In the 1850 Ohio census, John's age is listed as 31 and Lucy is 30. Lovina is the only child listed and her age is 5. They are household number 17 on page 349 or 175? They are living in Brookfield Twp. in District 164. (Where is District 164?) The 1860 Ohio census lists John at 48 years of age, Lucy 47, Lavina 14, H.E. 6, F.W. at 2 years of age. Any suggestions on how I can find out who John and Lucy's parents were. Their youngest son's middle name was Hart, so I'm wondering if there might be a connection to a Hart family. Also, I'm thinking their oldest child, Lavina/Lovina died in Trumbull County as she is not listed in the Iowa reference. Thanks for any advice! Chris Beck [email protected]

In the Old Kenilworth (aka "East") Cemetery in Greene Twp: Kelly, William, son of Cyrel & Abigail d. Feb 18, 1835 age 6m 18d In Cemetery records, I also found a daughter of D.C. & Diantha Tift buried in the same cemetery: Tift, Mary, d. Dec 8, 1840 age 2m 4d It's interesting that a Civil War vet from Greene Twp, S. B. Tift, served in the 2nd Illinois Cav, Co. A. Prior to 1820 Greene and Gustavus townships were combined. Your Cyrel Kelly/Kelley may be in 1830 or 1840 census in Greene Twp; his wife was named Abigail. Neither the Kelleys nor Tifts are listed as buried in Greene Twp. Is it possible these families removed to Illinois?
