At the Mahoning County Courthouse, cost for a certified copy of a birth or death entry is $1.00 with a SASE. (Noncertified copy costs $.50 plus the SASE.) On the envelope, designate: Probate Dept. for births, deaths, guardianships, marriages, probate records (wills & estates)". The marriage records should be indexed by both bride's name and groom's name, so there should be no trouble finding them if they were married in Mahoning Co., although you may have to try several years. I don't know whether or not they'll charge a search fee, and the prices listed above may be higher since the information on the Rootsweb site has been up for a few years. Good luck. Dave Williams

Library) has cemetery books for nearly every cemetery in Trumbull County. You can reach them at http://www.wtcpl.lib.oh.us/lh&g.htm The largest cemetery in Niles is Union Cemetery. I assume from the date that your grandfather died in WWII. There should certainly be an obituary for him in the Warren newspaper (today called the Tribune-Chronicle). Microfilm copies are available on the first floor of the library. The staff of the LHGC should be able to do a lookup for you in the cemetery books, and may be able to advise you on an obituary lookup as well. Dave Williams

I can’t thank you enough. My next goal is to find my aunt’s married name. Her mother refers to her as Maja in letters. My father talked of her as Anne Marie. Her maiden name would be Wilson. She was probably married in the Youngstown area between 1927 and the 1930 census . I believe her husband’s first name is Elmer, but I have no source of his last name. She had two children and I hope to find them. How can I find marriage licences and birth notices? I am a beginner. Thanks so much, Annamarie Bradfute

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZZB.2ACI/2680.1 Message Board Post: Annamarie, George (Georg) and Hilma appear in the 1930 US Census in Youngstown. The reference is: 1930 United States Federal Census Ohio, Mahoning Co., Youngstown, 210 McKinnie St.; Enumeration District 75, sheet 17A (See attachment) This Census indicates that they are both 46 and were married at 24. That would have put their marriage ca 1908 and probably in Sweden. George immigrated in 1909 and was naturalized, but Hilma did not immigrate until 1923. So, it seems probable that Georg came over ca 1909 and went back to Sweden, returning to the US at some later time. He does appear in the 1920 Census in Warren, but without Hilma. The reference is: 1920 United States Federal Census Ohio, Trumbull Co., Warren Ward 2, 418 Washington Ave.; Enumeration District 265, sheet 17A (See attachment) There is no indication of a daughter in either Census, which leads to 2 possibilities: 1) she was in Sweden with her mother in 1920 and then married and living away from her parents by 1930, or 2) she was not born until after 1930. Since you knew of her in the 1940s as a married woman with children, possibility 1 seems the more likely one. Probably the best way to trace the family between Censuses is with City Directories which can be found at The Trumbull County Local History & Genealogy Center. You can reach them at http://www.wtcpl.lib.oh.us/lh&g.htm I hope this is of some help. Dave Williams

The important thing to know is that the person whose grave you found, with a date of death 6 Sep 1902, is not Simeon Harmon, whose wife was named Lydia. He is Solomon Harmon, whose wife was named Christina. They are also in the 1900 census for Mahoning Co OH, Beaver Twp. The ages and other information for them are consistent with their obituaries (see my e-mail to you this morning, Jean - it contains all I found in census and link to the website posting of their obits, from a Mennonite publication). His obit refers to 4 living children and several grandchildren, so there are possibily survivors who still living in the area. So, are you looking for the person who died on 6 Sep 1902, named Solomon Harmon, or are you looking for Simeon Harmon, whose wife was Lydia and who had no surviving children past the year 1900? The 1900 census reference to Simeon's parents being born Germany confused me as well, although he and his probable brother stated in 1880 that their parents were born in MD. Purported father Solomon of Unity Twp, Columbiana Co OH says in 1870 census he was born PA, but that could be consistent with children thinking he was born MD. Incidentally, Solomon in 1900 census does state his father was born in PA. Looks like you had two volunteers doing research on this today, who both found same information! James and William Brown, brothers of Andrew and Richard, are buried in the Giddings-Brown Cemetery in Vernon Twp., Trumbull County. This cemetery is just south of the intersection of Route 88 and the Kinsman-Orangeville Rd. The Browns lived nearby. According to the Trumbull Co. Cemetery Inscriptions published by OGS, James was b. in 1776, and died in 1846. His wife was Hannah. William died in 1813, aged 40 yr. His wife was Martha Clark, who later married Enos Burnett. She is buried there too. Both men have War of 1812 markers on their graves. This cemetery was not in the best condition when last I saw it. Mr. Gessner, of Cortland, Ohio had done a lot of work on these families. Perhaps the Trumbull county Genealogical Library in Warren, Ohio, has further information. There is also further information about William & family in a Clark family genealogy. Unfortunately I do not have any of this at hand. Andrew Brown was my ancestor in two lines.
