Especially I remember after we moved to Pleasant Place by Thornton/Pleasant Park. I was in charge of getting the furnace set for the night. I would pick a monster piece to last the night... Until Dad told me we wanted to heat the house, not torch it! City Ice was owned by Burkhardt Brewery, which was down on Grant Street. And City Bakery was down there, what good bread smells!
