Lived on McKinley Avenue, then at my grandpa Garske's house at Grant & South Streets (Goosetown) and as a teenager on Pleasant Place. That is gone; is now a Post Office vehicle maintenance facility. It opened onto Pleasant Park which was on Grant Street at Thornton. I went to St. Mary's High School, never heard of that incident. There had been a ledge back in the early 1900s, Wolf Ledge. Singular, not ledges. When Akron "redeveloped" that area, I believe Bellows Street was re-named "Wolf Ledges Parkway", to give the area a more high-toned name. Bellows Street was mainly populated by black families, at least the area south of Abel Street. I do remember the Burkhardt Brewery, which earlier had been the Wolf Ledge Brewery before my time.
