He served in the 107th Regiment, Company B, of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. My father was a civil war buff and I vaguely remember seeing his name on a monument at Gettysburg. I do know he was in a Confederate Prisoner of War camp, as we have a poem he wrote about this awful experience. I also have some diaries. I do not know how he ended up in Akron, Ohio, when apparently he must have lived in Pennsylvania at the time of the Civil War. He had, I believe, 4 or 5 children in Akron, one of them my grandfather, Harry Waldsmith. This name was also my father's name, and is my brother's name. My brother still lives in Akron. Fascinating to think he might have had another family or at least a child in Pennsylvania.
