I received several requests for urls to German research, and an ongoing project re childhood friends informed me that during the the early 20th C years of Akron, the collaboration between Henry Ford and Havey Firestone, the rise of the rubber industry and the influx of labor from neighboring states indicated that the largest number of those migrating to Akron were from PA(regardless of the notion that Akron is the capiltal of WV.) Of course, they were not all German - but, PA is noted for the number of Germans who immigrated there and many did migrate west to Ohio. For those reasons, I am posting the urls online for all who might be interested. http://genealogy.about.com/library/weekly/aa072100a.htm Guide to genealogy basics - how to search, mistakes not to make. http://genealogy.about.com/od/germany/ Information on how to trace your ancestry in Germany http://faculty.ed.umuc.edu/~wmood/ Url for University of Maryland history courses, including European and German history. I have only looked at 440: 19th C German History. This page is basically a syllabus for the class and includes texts, reading schedule and links to other sites with relevant information. http://germanculture.com.ua/index.html This site is lead in for many things - music, art, folklore and myth, plus much more. Good information. http://www.rollintl.com/roll/rhine.htm History of Rhine Valley - 2 great maps - one of whole region including Czech, Poland, Austria, Switzerland http://www.archiveshub.ac.uk/news/baden.htm Sorry, but all the hyperlinks did not transfer when I copied from my page. I don't know if they work or not. You might have to type the url in the search line. Also, since my mother came to Akron from PA in the 1920's, and her paternal and maternal lines immigrated to PA from the late 1600's to 1840, I have been researching there for more years than I care to reveal. If anyone is having problems with PA research, I might be able to help. Regards, Jan T Researching: TOPLIFF~WEBER~HERSHEY~OSWALT~TREASTER~STOVER~WITHEROW~MCCRAE~GRAHAM~CUNNINGHAM.
