Diebold Family I am seeking assistance in gathering further information on my mother's family. I believe that family ma have come to US through Cincinnati area as I am supposed to have some relatives in that area. Grandfather - William Fredrick Diebold He was born in 1864, somewhere in Germany (I'd like to find the location). The date comes from his tombstone. I know he was in the USA at least by 1893, or possibly a few years earlier. He immigrated to; I believe Lockport, Indiana or at least southeastern Indiana. I seem to remember my mother speaking of him as a harness maker but I'm not sure. Grandmother - Katherine Diebold (possibly Catherine) She was born in 1864, somewhere in Germany. This date also from her tombstone. They had three Children: William 'Bill' F. Diebold born May 29, 1893, brother Clifford Diebold - I have no data, Helen Amelia Diebold Born May 7, 1903, (my mother). I know that the courthouse where her birth was recorded burnt down and she and my father went somewhere to get a woman to swear to date of birth (I'd like fine the town of her birth which I believe to be Lockport, Indiana). Sometime in my mothers early life the family moved to Marietta, Ohio where they lived on the hill, which I am assuming, was Harmer Hill. All I really know about life in Marietta is the fact that at least one of my uncles was very interested in motorcycles and dismantled them in the kitchen, much to the consternation of my grandmother. Sometime later they moved to Akron, Ohio and lived, I believe, on Goodyear Heights. And my cousin informed me that Grandfather painted signs on the sides of Goodyear trucks. My Grandmother Diebold died August 11, 1925, (Funeral handled by Sweeney Brothers Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio) and my Grandfather Diebold died May 23, 1942, (Funeral handled by Villa and Adams Funeral Home, Akron, Ohio). I never met either of them. My uncles were basically unknown to me so I lack information on them. Uncle William 'Bill' Diebold lived south of Akron most of his life in the Portage Lakes Area. He was born May 29, 1893, (Location unknown) and died August 1968, in Akron, Ohio. Uncle Clifford Diebold died sometime in the early 1950s in Roanoke, Indiana. He had 2 sons, Jacques Born in 1916 and died of drowning in Portage Lakes May 28, 1929, (Funeral handled by Adams Funeral Home); Robert was born August 19, 1912, and died March 24, 1994, I believe in Coesse, Indiana. Robert's and his wife Bulla lived in Coesse, Indiana. Can't locate much on him and nothing on her. If you've read these ramblings and recognize anything that might help me get a lead on my relatives I would really appreciate hearing from you.
