The date of 1800 has been used as a reference point since it is close to the 1803 date when Ohio became a state. 1800 to 1808: The area of Norton Twp was in Trumbull County. (Trumbull County was established in 1800) 1808 to 1812: The area of Norton Twp was in Portage County. (Portage County was established in 1808.) 1812 to 1840: The area of Norton Twp was in Medina County. (Medina County was established in 1818.) 1840 to Present: The area of Bath Twp is in Summit County. (Summit County was formed in 1840.) Inscriptions for several cemeteries in this township can be found in the book: "Summit County Cemetery Insccriptions, Volume I" which was published in 1978 by the Summit County Chapter, OGS. This book also includes burials from Bath and Copley Townships. BERRY FARM: Was in Norton but no longer exists. No other information. BLACK PLAGUE CEMETERY: a.k.a. VERBOTEN CEMETERY (published in Vol 1, pg 94) Abandoned. Was on a hillside behind the barns of the Bauer farm near the southwest corner of Akron-Wadsworth Rd and Barber Rd. May have been 6-7 burials here. Three (3) remaining gravestones were moved in 1990 to Norton Center Cemetery. JOHNSONS CORNERS CEMETERY: (published in Vol 1, pg 100) Located on Gale Dr off of Wooster Rd east of S Cleveland-Massillon Rd in Barberton, Ohio. On a hilltop in Waltz Park. LOYAL OAK CEMETERY: (published in Vol 1, pp 78-94) Located on the east side of S Cleveland-Massillon Rd at Loyal Oak. It is behind the Trinity Lutheran Church. NEW PORTAGE CEMETERY: (published in Vol 1, pp 95) a.k.a. HIGH STREET CEMETERY, PIONEER CEMETERY, CLARK CEMETERY Established around 1836 and was located on the west side of what was High St, now Wooster Road North, in Barberton. Destroyed when Portage School was built. Some burials were moved to Lakewood Cemetery. (see Coventry Twp cemeteries.) NORTON CENTER CEMETERY: (published in Vol 1, pp 96-97)Located at Norton center on the west side of S Cleveland-Massillon Rd at the south end of Norton Shopping Center.
