Main St.) was constructed in 1911. The 'new' South High School opened Sept. 1956 on East Ave. and later became South Education Center. Before 1911 the only high school was Akron High School which was renamed Central H.S. when South opened and later became Central-Hower all at the 123 S. Forge St. location.
