    1. [OHSUMMIT-L] Re: Any OH orphanage/s for Civil War orphans? Harold MAXWELL or Allan Burton CHAPMAN
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DYB.2ACE/1345.1 Message Board Post: The following families moved with my Brewster-Bellows family from Connecticut about 1812 to Summit (then Portage) County: Spicer, Brown (as in John Brown of Hudson, Ohio), Chapman, Stoddard. Many of these families lived near Hudson and may indeed have helped ABC attend Western Reserve. My Lucinda Brewster (probably born 5 Jan 1799 in Groton, New London, Conn and died 1899 Coventry, Summit Co OH) married (2nd) NATHANIEL Chapman on 28 Feb 1828 (probably Akron, Summit/ Portage County, OH). She had two daughters from previous marriage to James Edington. From LDS (reported by Marilyn Olson of Mesa, AZ), I have the following notes on Nathaniel Chapman: he first married Martha Spicer (9 May 1813 in PORTAGE, Ohio); he lived in Tallmadge, Ohio and was elected justice of the peace Nov 1812. Then wife Martha died and Nathaniel married Lucinda Brewster Edrington in 1828; the family moved to Medina, Medina County, OH where the first (maybe all the following children were born to Nathani! el and Lucinda): 1) Stephen Brewster Chapman 27 May 1829 Medina, Oh - died 27 Nov 1907 Lindsey, Kansas; 2) Richard Chapman b 1 Apr 1831 and died 24 Jan 1857; 3) Henry N. Chapman b 18 Mar 1833; 4) James B. Chapman b 8 Aug 1836; 5) Leonard G. Chapman 13 Feb 1839; 6) Philo (Milo) Chapman b 16 Aug 1841. Lucinda died in Summit County in 1899; Nathaniel died 1866 in Wisconsin. So, this family moved around alot... making it very difficult to figure out who was who. I checked the children of Stephen Brewster Chapman and can find no relation to ABC. Did Nathaniel and Martha Spicer Chapman have children/son (ABC's GRANDfather born 1814 and out on his own soon after his father's remarriage)? OR, another view is that Nathaniel Chapman had a brother who settled in the area and was ABC's progenitor. Hope this gives you some leads.
