Do you know when they died? The Akron Beacon Journal Obits available online only go back to Jan 7, 1985. I am not sure if I am related to the Maurer family you mentioned. My married name is Maurer, so that comes from my ex-husbands family, but I have found that I also have some very distant Maurer relatives of my own. On my paternal grandfather's branch of the tree, I have Rosanna Maurer married to Isaac Barron/Barrone, Isaac apparently is my third cousin three times removed. I believe Rosanna's parents were Jacob & Elizabeth (Walker) Maurer. They were from Somerset County, Pennsylvania. I also have Emil J Maurer married to Nellie E Fertig. Emil's parents were Sigmund/Samuel & Wilhelmina (Rotbacker) Maurer. Nellie's sister Pauline Fertig was married to my paternal grandmother's brother Charles William Bates. This Maurer line lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. My late ex-husband's family lived in Cuyahoga Falls, before that his line lived for several generations in Ashland County, Ohio. I have many Maurers in my tree, but so far, I have not connected the three different Maurer lines together. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My greatgrandmother was Maria Maurer and she and her husband Peter S. Maurer, they were cousins. They married on the boat. Her father Philip Jacob Maurer came over on the boat from Germany in 1857. Philips brother Johann Jacob Maurer came over also and settled in Ohio for a period of time but went back to the old country and took over the family homestead in Kleindenbundenbach and remained there the rest of his life. King, Jr. It doesn't state his exact death date but he was the husband of Eva Dimit and is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua, Ohio. Eva Dimit King's obit was in the 8 Nov 1999 issue of the Beacon Journal. All it says is that she was the wife of Herbert King, Jr., and daughter of Caroline & Leslie Dimit. There was also an obit in the Akron Beacon Journal on 18 Feb 1999 for a LeRoy J. King, aged 69, son of Eva & Herbert King who was born 27 Jan 1930 in North Bloomfield, Ohio and died 16 Feb 1999. Kim - If you google Battle of the Bulge of WWII or the cemetery - and read the history, you will understand why the body was not returned. If memory serves me correctly, more allied soldiers lost their lives in the days of that battle than any other during the war. My uncle was there, and I remember my mother crying for days, not because he died, but because the news about the battle was so horrific and so many were lost, and those with loved ones in the battle did not know what the outcome would be. Is there an obituary for Allie when she died in Summit County??? I talked to Samuel's son Archie's son Richard Strole on the phone last week, and he said his granpa and grandma Strole spoke fluent German and that Samuel married his housekeeper that came over on the boat with him as his second wife. I think things are a little confused here, because Samuel was born in Ohio and his step-brothers by his father's first wife were born in Ohio also. Possibly their father Henry Franklin Strole came over from Germany, then to Pennsylvania and then to Ohio and this housekeeper's family came over at the same time.
