Who were her parents? What were the circumstances that put her up for adoption? Was she in an orphanage? Her name was Jennie Mae Hublinger; adopted by William and Ellen (Elvira?) Hublinger in Barberton, Ohio. The birth date I have for Jennie is 5 January 1870. She married Oliver Franklin Hoch on 23 June 1885 in Manchester, Summit County, Ohio. Jennie and Oliver had 4 children: Maude, Noda (my grandmother), Iva, and Chester. Jennie died on 6 December 1919 in Ohio. What would be a god starting place to look? Author: bigredlancer Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.summit/5064.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I was born in Akron in 1938. Lived on McKinley Avenue, then at my grandpa Garske's house at Grant & South Streets (Goosetown) and as a teenager on Pleasant Place. That is gone; is now a Post Office vehicle maintenance facility. It opened onto Pleasant Park which was on Grant Street at Thornton. I went to St. Mary's High School, never heard of that incident. There had been a ledge back in the early 1900s, Wolf Ledge. Singular, not ledges. When Akron "redeveloped" that area, I believe Bellows Street was re-named "Wolf Ledges Parkway", to give the area a more high-toned name. Bellows Street was mainly populated by black families, at least the area south of Abel Street. I do remember the Burkhardt Brewery, which earlier had been the Wolf Ledge Brewery before my time. Author: JRay38M Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.summit/5064.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Wow that's some story. I've lived here my entire life and never heard that one but then again, I'm not old enough but my mother is still alive 86 and that's a new one on me. But it would definately be Wolf Ledges. You can google that and click on IMAGES and see pictures of the ledges. Wolf Ledges Parkway and Grant street run parallel to one another. I would suggest contacting the library http://www.akronlibrary.org/ and if that doesn't work try the Akron Beacon Journal at Ohio.com 330-996-3000 I'm sure one of the two have old articles on microfilm. That would be my suggestion as to where to start. Interesting, St. Bernards is about 2 blocks away on Broadway which also runs parallel to Wolf Ledges and Grant st. St. Bernards was built in 1905. Good luck in your search. Janean Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: OrgieK Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.summit/5064/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Mom has been troubled for years about a vivid memory she has of two nuns jumping over a ledge or gorge in a park off Grant Street in Akron. She was about five or six (maybe 1935 or 1936) when she and he little sister approached two nuns standing on the ledge. As Mom and my aunt neared, the nuns jumped. She remembers running with her screaming sister away but nothing afterwards. Both girls remember the incident, but want to know if it really happened and what happened. It troubles them to this day. Can anyone tell us if this did happen? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
