It will be easy to look for an obit if he died after 1940, but if it was before that we need a date.

I am seeking information on the following Pofahl families that lived in or about Akron: William (Wilhelm) Pofahl and his wife Ann. I believe William is my greatgrandmother, Caroline's, brother. I know my Uncle Richard Denzin and his family lived with William and Ann in 1906. I know that anna has Ethel gilmore and Gladys Burroughs and sons Raymond and Richard. So mightn't OH have had a similar orphanage or system? We''ve long searched for family for Mystery Grandpa Allan Burton CHAPMAN whose birth name may well have been Harold MAXWELL, born 1864. He consistently claims born in OH as were both parents - whoever they were. It's possible his father's given name was John. ABC attended WRA in Hudson 1878-1881 and that's the earliest documentation found so far. Either someone had disposable income to pay his tuition books room & board or now a new thought -- a scholarship (at 14!) for a civil war orphan from the even-back-then liberal Western Reserve Academy.

Powell, Thank you very much for responding so promptly and with the information that I've been searching for. I'd like to discuss more your finds regarding Lester's family. Could you please send me your e-mail address, so we could correspond directly? >From the information you posted, Lester Venters is indeed the first cousin of my Grandfather, Ross Venters. From your note, I'm assuming you got all that information from the 1880 census, is that correct? Vinton Co is a new locality for me to study now, as previously there was none of the family in that area. All three of the families you mention are definitely related. John and Elizabeth Clevenger Venters were married in 1844 and John died in 1863 in the Civil War. Elizabeth then married Larkin Henson. Two of the ten children of John & Elizabeth were William A and the James, besides my great-grandfather Pleasant. William, by your note, is the father of Lester, and when James died young, leaving widow Mary with two small children she married James Walton and had two more children. I very appreciate your information and would like to ask if you have any more Venters information. I'd gladly share what I have if you're interested.

Hi Joan, I'd greatly appreciate if you could please. I'm working on a petition of sorts to do a census address search to see if my missing grandfather was actually living with his father while my grandmother's family was looking for him in Union Co. from 1926 - 1931. If you could please, would you keep an eye on whether any Harold L. Bishop was listed too? There was a 2nd Harold Lee Bishop in the surrounding Summit Co. area that I discovered was not mine. His dad, William A., was 27, worked in a coal mine, and was from KY but living at Zaleski in Vinton Co. OH. His parents were from VA. His wife Mary E is 24, born in OH, but her parents were also from VA. The children were Irean 5, Lester 4, and Paulina 2. They are the only Venters in that town. Over at Madison in Jackson County is an interesting family; the wife may be a relative but not his mother as we shall see - his mother is from VA but this lady KY as were both her parents. A Larkin HENSON 72, farmer, born KY from NC parents is married to Elizabeth age 52. They have children Joseph F 11 and Maud who is 9. There are also VENTERS stepchildren John H 19 born in OH so they have been around that long in OH and Mahala, 24, KY. One other household in the state that year seems to also have a VENTERS stepchild. At Elizabeth in Lawrence County is another miner, James WALTON 30, OH, married with Mary born WV but both her parents are born VA, so *maybe* William's sister or widow/ex of a brother of his.Their children are Daisy 3, Willard 2 - and May VENTERS, 8, born OH. That's the lot.

Does anyone have any info on Daniel Lehr? He signed for land on 1 Sep 1823 in Wooster. Would like to know if he could possibly be Isaac Lehr's father? He is given in the Ohio River Survey, Section 32, Township 17N, Range 13W. Can anyone tell me how I can find out when he died and possibly locate probate records for him? Trying to find out who his children and relatives were? At a brick wall. Thank you for your time. Have a great day! Sandy
