Ditto!! Ditto!! Even the genealogy books that were in the basement are out on the shelves on Tallmadge Ave. The city directory books are all there, too. Much easier to look at than microfilm. The Akron Public Library is not a mess. The library has every book out on its shelf including the genealogy department. It is easy to find the books you need. There is plenty of free parking compared to downtown Akron. But, when the library was downtown I usually drove to Chapel Hill and took a bus to downtown. I saved on parking and could stay as long as I want. They even have bus schedules (only know about downtown but presume the Tallmade Ave site has them too). They have plenty of computers and everything is easily assessable. Good luck
Not all the years for the Akron City Directory are at the Akron Public Library. I found lots of info by going through the Akron Beacon Journal microfilms. The paper is the most informative source to find out about family through death notices, weddings, and court cases. Good luck.
Yes try that. I understand the library is being refurbished so it is a mess for right now. The other thing is that medina county is very close you think might be there? Jacquie, Ok here goes with what you asked for. These are the city directories for Akron that I found: Akron 1926-1927 none listed anyway 1928 none listed anyway 1931 none listed anyway 1939 Thelma R. h (I assume owns home) 904 Wall in Akron. Found no Barbarton for the years they had yet wonder if sub. have you checked with the Akron people? Hi, I tried a couple of time to work with the ABJ archivist a year ago....bad experience. :-(( I'm looking for 1-2 specific addresses since there's no street address(es) listed on the death certificates I have. I appreciate your responding. Thank you. Jacquie (California) Mayboleayr@aol.com wrote: > Not all the years for the Akron City Directory are at the Akron Public > Library. Hi Joan, I'd been hoping that someone on the Summit Co. list would have written me off list to say they had access to all the directories for Summit Co., Akron and Barberton but no one replied. A year ago a lady had the directory for 1935 but didn't find (my) Bishops listed either. :-(( I'd thought for sure that Howard E. & Theresa Bishop would have been found in any directory after 1931. Lordie, I'm a nut case! I just thought of something. Do you think the Summit Co. historical society would have copies of all the areas directories? I'll have to find their web site again (lost all my bookmarks a few days ago) and send them a message. Thanks so much! I really do appreciate all your help.
