Hey Bev, A Marriage Bond is where the person formally swears that they are free to marry and the marriage license is where the couple applied to marry and the clergyman signed and registered. I hope this helps. Pati In a message dated 3/30/02 8:11:58 PM Eastern Standard Time, Pod50@aol.com writes: << Could anyone explain what the difference is between a Marriage Bond and Marriage License. Was there a separate children's section at this cemetery in the 1920's and 30's? THAT WOULD BE GLENDALE CEMETERY STILL GOING STRONG.
I sent in for my ancestors dec. of intent, with the date and relevent info, that SKS on this list had found for me in a book. What I received was his final papers, dated 3 years later, and a note saying there was no dec. of intent. This would be for the year 1857. I tried ordering the records thru my FHC, but I keep getting the wrong years or the wrong type of papers. I would like to go to Summit County for research and I was wondering if there is a place I can go and look for these papers myself. I had also sent for a death look up for 8 people, and paid for the search, and was told no record of their deaths existed in Summit or Stark counties. I got the death index for Summit county at my FHC and found 7 of them myself. So I know records are out there waiting to be found. I need his dec. of intent, to get his passenger list, to try to find out where in the Isle of Man he came from. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you, Diane

Believe she was the sister of Julius. I show Elvira (or Elmira?) as d/o Ananias DERTHICK 1750-1827 (changed at some point from DETHICK) and his 2nd wife Tryphena SKINNER. My wife descends from Ananias and his 1st wife, Mary Ann WELCH. There is quite a bit on these Derthick/ Dethick families in a book by Spencer & Goodpasture -titled "Derthicks and Related Derricks". Elvira is mentioned on several pages in this book and will be glad to search more for her in the book if you write direct Email. - Allan Griffith - Bloomington, IL - alternate and presently preferred Email: magrif@gte.net
Hi Becky, No luck on Bookfinder yet. E-bay doesn't have one either. Boy is that a big price! I hope it is a great book and worth it. Thanks for the tips. I will keep looking. Jean

Good Afternoon Summit Co. researchers. Am trying to track down family in Cincinnati who moved to Akron about 1920? My Grandfather was Harry M. Krengel , had sisters Edna and Marie (married "Fast" and "Smith"). Their parents were Harry C. Krengel and Anna McCarthy Krengel. Any connections out there? Kit Krengel Sinyard (BRESNEHAN, CARSON, HERSHEY, KRENGEL, MCCARTHY)
The two best recent books would be Karl Grismer's "History of Akron and Summit County" published by the Summit County Historical Society c. 1952 and George Knepper's "Akron: City at the Summit" published in the 1990's. Grismer's book is closer to the late 19th century model -- a basic history with a lot of bios at the end (mostly of 20th century Akronites, but not exclusively); Knepper's book contains lots of photos along with the author's typically sharp insights with a large section at the end containing one page company histories. Hope this helps. Good Morning List, I am wondering if anyone can suggest a good book on the history of the Summit County area. I have seen a few titles on-line, but have never actually seen a book to page through. I am particularly interested in the time line of the 20's to present. Any suggestions on titles, authors, or places to purchase would be welcome! Thanks, Becky Miller
Not on line that I know of but the Akron Public Library has books that list the ED#'s of many of the states. What was good about it, you could sort of pinpoint approximately when the family came to the U.S.
But where did they live on Summit County? With an address you can look up in the City Directories in the Akron Public Library. What years etc.,
The Summit Co. Courthouse, property and land division has books that lists all property and all owners of each particular piece of property. I can't recall the exact dept., of the land and property, but someone at the courthouse can direct you. Does anyone know if there exists on-line a helpful locator for the enumeration districts for the 1920 Census or any other years?
