There were 2 unmarried daughters also living in the same household and I am unsure which would be his mother, Henrietta or Rebecca. I also found him again in the 1920 Summit County census in Stow Township, Precinct B. Elmer's wife was Virgie and they had 2 sons, Harry and Samuel. I found both sons in Summit County in the Ohio Death index. I did not find Elmer or Virgie. They probably died before 1965. Does anyone know anything about this family?

    1. [OHSUMMIT-L] Jim AIKEN : ex-ZIP coach
    2. Joyce Dever
    3. Good Evening, I have been doing some genealogy spring cleaning, and came upon something I cannot believe I even forgot I had! My father, Walter Charles LUCAS, Jr. died in 1989 from a long bout of stomach cancer. My Mother and I were going through all of their old photos/papers/memorabilia. In the papers there was an article cut from the Akron Beacon Journal dated November 11(?) 1961 (?) (these are very difficult to read). My Mom made a copy of the article, and it is really hard to read, actually, mostly unreadable. I can pick out that Jim AIKEN was born in 1900. The article is about Jim AIKEN, and ex-ZIP football coach 1936-1939. I asked Mom why this article was in Dad's papers, and she replied that "Your Father said he was an Uncle or a Cousin, I don't remember which, right now." Then she went on to say. "I remember the day he cut it out, he was crying". This sort of threw me for the proverbial loop. My Dad never finished high school, so, I know he did not go to college. I cannot find any name connections to tie this AIKEN to my LUCAS family. Does any one know of this AIKEN family? I would sure love to eblab with someone who may be able to give me a helping hand. Thanks so much, Joyce Lucas Dever, near Seattle skipdever@earthlink.net

There is no record of a marriage license for that man in Summit Co. Probate has marriages 1840 to present. Her guess was that did not apply for the license in Summit County. You could check with surrounding counties, Stark, Wayne, Portage, Medina. But that doesn't mean that they got the license even nearby. You may want to contact someone at www.acorn.net/gen to see what you can do.

    2. Hello IL from OH I looked up in the Akron and Summit County Book and there is a blurb about a Lincoln ELLSWORTH: Lincoln ELLSWORTH, a wealthy man from Hudson (Summit) OH financed a successful Arctic flight. He tried to reach the North Pole with Roald AMUNDSEN, polar explorer. There is more and if this ELLSWORTH is your relative I will send the rest of the info. By the way since your from IL I am interested in who the man was that the SELFRIDGE Air Force base was named after. In ca 1920 a military man named SELFRIDGE was with the Wright Brothers on one of their flights and was killed in the crash. I am during this info from memory but I cut it out of the magazine section of the Washington Post.

Daniel also had sisters Mary, Catharine, Julia, and Elizabeth. Elizabeth married Wm. H. Stackhouse circa 1860 - we don't know where. Julia and Catharine never married, and lived with Daniel. Have no information regarding Mary. James and Catharine HURLEY both claimed to be from Ireland in census returns. Other than census returns, where could I look for information regarding the family? (I have Julia's death cert.) Are old maps available, so I could correlate census addresses with nearest churches, etc? Any suggestions very welcome! Thanks, Julie

    1. [OHSUMMIT-L] Death or cemetery record and marriage record
    2. Researcher
    3. Hi, If anyone has access to Summit County death or cemetery records, I would very much appreciate a look up for Robert Trotter. His wife seems to have remarried after he died. I have an old photo of Louisa (nee?), titled "Grandma Trotter Ellsworth" which includes no other information. Louisa must have married an Ellsworth after 1860, so I am also searching for a marriage record for her. Background: When I was in Ohio a couple of years ago, I found deeds for land Robert had purchased in Streetsboro, Portage County in 1839, and some (which seemed to be part of the same land) that he sold in 1851, but one deed said Streetsboro and one said Summit County. The 1850 census said he was in Streetsboro, Portage County, so that is the only county I researched. I later learned Summit County was formed around 1840, using part of Portage County, etc. But the 1850 Census threw me off, so I figured he was still in the Portage County part. However, he seemed to disappear after 1850. The other day, at Ancestry.com, I searched name by name through the Northfield, Summit Co, census (a lucky guess, based on its proximity to Streetsboro) and discovered Robert's wife, Louisa F., and their children, but no Robert. Robert must have died sometime between 1851 and 1860. I would be grateful for any information or clues anyone can provide me. Thanks! W.Warren from Illinois
