They are my gr,gr grandparents. Jacob was born Mar. 23,1798 and died May 15, 1877 (dates from tombstone). He married Jane Hall in Chambersburg, PA in 1820. They moved to Summit County, Ohio in 1832 and to Shirland, Winnebago, Illinois in 1854. Jane was born May 7, 1793 and died Oct. 10, 1891. All of this info is from Jane's obit. They are both buried in Shirland Cemetery. I am descended from their second daughter Harriett Miller Cormany. They had 4 children, Susan, John Hall, Harriett Miller and Mary Hall Cormany. I would like to find Jane Hall's parents.

    3. My great-grandfather, Levi Morgan, died in 1936. His obit stated he was a member of the 50-year-club. Does anyone know what it is/was? He worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber; was it part of that organization's recognition to employees, or was there another 50-year-club? Thanks. 2. I should have said you might possibly find the death date of your French family in Akron by looking at the SSDI and Ohio Death Index.

    1. Re: [OHSUMMIT-L] City Directory?
    2. Yes, there are city directories. I have used them from 1910-1920. There is a lot of good information. If you find the name and it gives the place of work, you can also look for an advertisement for that employer- some are very interesting. Noreen

    1. [OHSUMMIT-L] City Directory?
    2. Would anyone know if there are city directories available for Akron between 1911 and 1919? I am searching for Ninko (Nick/Nicholas) Latinovic/Latinovich and his wife Ljubica/ Julia who immigrated from Yugoslavia 1911 -1913. Their child was born in Waynesburg or Winesburg, Ohio and baptized in the Holy Theotokas Serbian Orthodox church in Akron in 1918 so they must have lived around there somewhere. By 1920 they were in Cleveland, Ohio. I'm grateful for any help. Marilyn in Ohio

    1. Re: [OHSUMMIT-L] Records of Don R. Long Funeral Home, 293 Market Street, Akro...
    2. Hi, Mark. One of my classmates was Jeanette Long. Her father had the funeral home. She had a brother Niles and I believe a brother Johnny, both of whom may be alive. I know that Don died when Jeanette was in the 4th grade, which would have been about 1954. His wife's name was Martha. She continued the business, but I do not know for how long. I believe Don may have had a brother that was partners with him. Perhaps through Yahoo.com people finder you may get one of his sons and be able to contact him. Good luck. Noreen

    1. Re: [OHSUMMIT-L] Mullens
    2. There was a John McMullen buried in St. Vincent's Cemetery (Irish Catholic) but if they didn't die here they might have been buried in MIchigan rather than Akron. Sometimes immigrants changed their names to adjust to the American way, so McMullen could be a corruption of the name. Good luck.

    2. Diane Casey
    3. Hello. I am looking for someone who gets the Akron-Beacon Journal and would be willing to get me a few copies of an obituary for George Truman of Akron. He was my husband's great uncle and we are in Arizona. We are unable to attend the funeral this coming Saturday, July 13th. I don't really know the date of death but it was after July 4th. We were notified on July 10th and he may have died a few days earlier. There may be a related newspaper article in the newspaper about his death. I have been looking at the Akron-Beacon Journal web site for the last few days and have been unable to find either a story or an obituary. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. I would be willing to reimburse for postage and newspaper costs. Thanks in advance. Diane in Phoenix, AZ ILuvAZ@cox.net

    1. Re: [OHSUMMIT-L] Recommendations for Geneal. Book
    2. On the La Rocque name usually even though they do not have the same name as the people they are living with, they are listed separately in the census. Enumerated with is what they use and NR is non-relative or not-recorded. I have a list of all the abbreviations I obtained from the National Archives in WDC but since I moved I have not come across it. Good luck

    1. Re: [OHSUMMIT-L] Recommendations for Geneal. Book
    2. I know that my relatives came from Alsace France and settled in Akron. But at that time that part of France was under Prussian rule so most of the immigrants listed as being from Prussia or Germany. I was able to visit the heimat (hometown) of my family Mouterhausen, France. Wish you luck on your research.
