It would help very much if family researchers would list the names they are researching alphabetically, and in large caps, include dates or any other information that would be pertinent and would help all the volunteer to look up the information. I am willing to help but am finding that it takes longer for me to look up when it is not alphabetical. Whereas the index is alphabetical and it would be much easier to search for their family names. Thanks
Barber founded Barberton because he was accused by the Summit County auditors of not paying enough taxes and he was the richest man. He paid $97 a year as compared to Seiberling who paid $2,286 and that was printed in the Akron Times in 1890. Akron fined Barber penalties for nonpayment of taxes and Barber blew his top and he founded Barberton and moved the Diamond Match Company there. He brought in large plants to Barberton (pottery, sewer pipes, cartridge, and, etc.). And built two hotels the National and the Barberton Inn and built a railroad. There was recently an article in the Akron Beacon Journal about Barberton.

HI, I'd like to know what township Barberton is in? and what township Barberton was located in during 1880's to 1890's? Was there a newspaper nearby during that time period? Does anyone know a link to a library that would have old newspapers that covered Barberton ? ~Kathleen kkn9955.1@netzero.net

Priser could be Pfizer or one of those AKA's in our family. To me would be Freaster, Fister, First, Frost, Snow, Faulkner, Ferris, Farris, Forest, Foster, and so many others I have researched. Baldwin is one I know the spelling, just not the connection at this time. I have no proof, but was told a Sherman/etc AKA's had a son Sylvester that married a Drusilla Smalley. He would have been from the Sherman? line with Garver, and Foster would have been the other name of the wife. I am finding family all over IN, IL, OH, MO, KS, PA,etc and haven't put them all together yet. don't know if this helped or hindered, but thought I would write.

I also would like to know about records for the Children's home and city directories 1910-1920 or later. My great Grandmother, Jessie Martin Marsh, supposedly worked at the children's home and raised her 5 children in the home during the time period sometime after 1911 maybe till the time the children were grown 1920-1925?. Apparently my Grandfather, Henry Adam Marsh, left her about 1911-1912 and she raised the children by herself. This has taken me about 15 years to locate this family and has been a brick wall till just this year. This is a very disconnected family and I know that she moved to Stow, Ohio by 1947. Other than that I have no idea where she was between the time of 1911-1947. I would greatly appreciate any information about where to find the records for the Children's home or city directories so that I may find out more about this family. Is this an orphanage you're looking for? THe childrens home I know about was the county social services which worked with children in east Akron. my mom worked there in teh 50's and 60's. as far as i know it still exists and you could probably find it in the telephone book or through summit county government web site. jc
Hi, It's on S.Arlington St. in Akron, Ohio. The building is very old, now houses social workers. We were told it used to be an orphanage. I'll write later after I find the exact address and phone no. We were foster parents with them some time ago. Judy
