Lots of our family worked for the Goodrich Company but when I married into the family they owned their own homes. But, they came here in 1880. And city directories listed street addresses for them. Checked the History of the B.F. Goodrich company and no mention of building homes for the workers.

I tried to access the Archives in ABJ/Ohio.com for obituaries for my mother's family. Are these not available anymore? I'm looking in the 1940s thru 1990s. Maybe I'm having a senior moment and not hitting the correct spot on the webpage. Hi Jim, My dad worked at Goodrich for more than 45 years starting in the very late teens until the mid 60's. My grandfather worked there for over 20 years until he retired in the mid 40's. My mother worked there for a very short time; and I worked there for a year or two in the early 70's. Now, there is only a corporate headquarters here in Akron. The address, according to the phone book, is: 4020 Kinross Lake Parkway, Richfield, OH 44286. Phone # 330-659-7600. There was not company housing as in other places. Both Seiberling (Goodyear) and Firestone built homes that they sold to their workers at cost. But the homes were of good quality and the mortgages were very reasonable. Many of those homes are still standing and still very desirable. A good book: WHEELS OF FORTUNE, THE STORY OF RUBBER IN AKRON by Steve Love and David Giffels, published by the University of Akron Press, Akron, Ohio. I bought mine on Ebay for $5.00. Linda Taylor

Hi, In the late 1920's My parents migrated to Akron from TN and WV to find work. They were both employed by B. F. Goodrich. Does any one know, at least approximatly the Goodrich address? Did the rubber factories have company housing? Would appreciate any help. Jim Duncan in Arizona

This section of Ancestry.com is free (I think). Give it a try. It's divided by name, location and topic. http://www.ancestry.com/share/main.htm?lfl=m Jacquie
Probably the Akron Library might have year books. Cuyahoga Falls Library has the High School Years books but they only had one H.S. Akron has more.
Good evening list, I'm very interested in Colette's question. Would someone during the early 1900s, living in / around the areas of Barberton or Sawyerwood have gone to any of these schools? I've still been digging (wishing) for any school photos of my missing maternal grandfather, Harold Lee Bishop. Does anyone know if the high schools had "picture days" around 1918? Or am I asking for the moon??
