The family I am researching is of German descent. Our family used the name Jurick / Yurick but I believe may be related to 2 families in Summit that used the Jurkic variations. I found a Frank Jurkic / Yurkic born cir 1880 who came from Sarvas in 1906 to Summit county, Ohio. His wife was Maria Wagner born Vucevci, Osijek Parish, Austria. 2 known children were Juro which may be George born 1905 in Sarvas and Stefan..probably became Steven born 1909 in Ohio. The other family was John / Johann Jurkic born cir 1883/84 who arrived in 1907. His wife was Katherine ( Torn ?) and their children were Katherine born cir 1908 in Austria, Peter born 1912/13, Rosaline born 1921, and Joseph born 1924. You may email me directly at rubyslippers@kc.rr.com Thanks! Sharon

Does anyone know about the Hotel Thomas in Akron John Hetzel and wife Margaret ran the hotel and I checked some of the City Directories hoping to find when and where the Hotel was and possibly if there was a picture of it. Would appreciate any information that you know about. Thanks in advance.
There was mention of the Akron City Directories and not all were on the shelf but I will find out when I go again if there are microfilms. The lights are too bright where the microfilms are and I asked the librarian were they going to do something about it and she said that they discussed it. But there are 1929 and so Akron Beacon Journal Indexes where the early ones list births, deaths, marriages and is time consuming to look through all of the ones but they do list the brides and the grooms name. The later ABJ indexes are limited only to obituaries.

Instead of all the red white and blue rah rah stuff, why not remember Sept. 11 by doing community service, helping an immigrant to learn English, trying to understand cultures other than our own. Wouldn't this be more valuable than wearing a flag? JC

The outline you gave may indeed be helpful some day if I ever sniff out a trail, any clue at all. It's the only clue I've gotten about Chapmans in 1800s Summit County besides the Brit conscript captured War of 1812 that settled and decided to stay. So few early details are documentable. Earliest known was ABC's student listing showing that he lived 1879 and 1879 with "Mr. Chapman", whichever one that was. Born about 1866, blood type AB.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DYB.2ACE/1345.1 Message Board Post: The following families moved with my Brewster-Bellows family from Connecticut about 1812 to Summit (then Portage) County: Spicer, Brown (as in John Brown of Hudson, Ohio), Chapman, Stoddard. Many of these families lived near Hudson and may indeed have helped ABC attend Western Reserve. My Lucinda Brewster (probably born 5 Jan 1799 in Groton, New London, Conn and died 1899 Coventry, Summit Co OH) married (2nd) NATHANIEL Chapman on 28 Feb 1828 (probably Akron, Summit/ Portage County, OH). She had two daughters from previous marriage to James Edington. From LDS (reported by Marilyn Olson of Mesa, AZ), I have the following notes on Nathaniel Chapman: he first married Martha Spicer (9 May 1813 in PORTAGE, Ohio); he lived in Tallmadge, Ohio and was elected justice of the peace Nov 1812. Then wife Martha died and Nathaniel married Lucinda Brewster Edrington in 1828; the family moved to Medina, Medina County, OH where the first (maybe all the following children were born to Nathani! el and Lucinda): 1) Stephen Brewster Chapman 27 May 1829 Medina, Oh - died 27 Nov 1907 Lindsey, Kansas; 2) Richard Chapman b 1 Apr 1831 and died 24 Jan 1857; 3) Henry N. Chapman b 18 Mar 1833; 4) James B. Chapman b 8 Aug 1836; 5) Leonard G. Chapman 13 Feb 1839; 6) Philo (Milo) Chapman b 16 Aug 1841. Lucinda died in Summit County in 1899; Nathaniel died 1866 in Wisconsin. So, this family moved around alot... making it very difficult to figure out who was who. I checked the children of Stephen Brewster Chapman and can find no relation to ABC. Did Nathaniel and Martha Spicer Chapman have children/son (ABC's GRANDfather born 1814 and out on his own soon after his father's remarriage)? OR, another view is that Nathaniel Chapman had a brother who settled in the area and was ABC's progenitor. Hope this gives you some leads.
