At the end of a week long trip in several Ohio counties, I found an obit that stated Harrison Crist had resided at 240 S. 4th Street in Cuyahoga Falls, in 1927. I tried to find the house, but it seems the house numbers started around 1400 and went higher as the street went north. As it was a Saturday, I could not ask at city hall if there had been a street and/or house number change. He had built his own house about 1916 and many of the houses I saw seemed old enough to be his. As I have just found this address, I have not checked deed or tax records. If anyone is familiar with this area, I would appreciate any help on how to find out if his house still stands. Thank you, Diane

There are both Deacons and O'Brien's in the O'Brien cemetery. I wasn't aware of having to get police permission to go O'Brien, but it makes sense, because the road was washed away in one part, and I had to climb across a new plastic drainpipe to get there! The cemetery is about 1/2 mile down the road, and is very isolated. In fact, when I got to the entrance, I startled a few deer that were grazing in it. The other cemetery you mention is Maple Lawn cemetery. I am transcribing that cemetery, also (it's currently in process). What I have completed so far is also on my website - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ohiocem (look in Summit County). There are many old tombstones in both cemeteries, but O'Brien's stones are very hard to read due to age, weathering, breaking, etc. I'll be happy to do lookups for either cemetery. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DYB.2ACE/1516 Message Board Post: Hi, I have a real mystery here. My grandmother and her brothers were all adopted when their mother died in Alliance, Ohio in 1897. Her oldest brother, Harry Humphrey and his wife, Golda (Goldie) I found in the Akron City Directory in 1930. It stated he worked in the rubber company. Is there anyone out there that could help me find out more about this couple ? He was born with the name of Harry Dumphry and in the 1920 census he still has this name , sometime after this he changed his name. He and Goldie had two children, William and Ida. Any help or advice would be greatly apprectiated. I am pretty much at a brickwall where this side of my family is concerned. I am trying to find an obit or death date for him so I could find a death certificate so I could find out his parents. On my grandmother's death certificate listed parents as unknown. She wasn't quite two when she was adopted. Her brother, Harry was 8 years old, so I am hopefull he would have known his pare! nts names. Thanks so much. Debbie
The Index to the Guardianship Records of Summit County only list the name and numbers. In Ralph Koeberle's case he was the youngest son and his sister or brother became his guardian as he was a minor. So I never pursued it.
The Robert and William WALKER family come from eastern Virginia, removed to Hudson, OH and later settled in Stow (Summit) OH.
There is a Robert and William WALKER family that lived in Stow and Hudson. One of the WALKERS married into the STEWART family. Hudson and Stow Libraries have family information on both families.
I just happen to have gotten some info for a Walker researcher who lives in Italy and I have research on the Deacon's who are related to the O'Brien's. The Walker's came from Eastern Virginia. Isn't there something about not going to the O'Brien Cemetery alone and you have to go to the Police Department to get permission. Let me know if I am wrong. I went to the cemetery along Darrow Road before Fishcreek to look for walker's and I found a big obelisk with the Deacon name. Cemeteries are great sources of family info. But in the Darrow Road cemetery the signs are difficult to read.
Sorry but I didn't catch the misspelled word it should be "article" not what appeared in the e-mail on Alvin C. VORIS. He was also a Union Soldier.
There is an article on Alvin C. VORIS and wife Lydia and children Edwin and Lucy in the Akron Beacon Journal dated September 22, 2002, Section E9. When I was in the Akron Public Library the genealogy librarian was cutting the VORIS Arielle for their files.
Did you try church records? Sometimes the records only gave the date of the christening, but I have found some old church records with both the baptismal date and the birth date. Most of the time the records revealed not only the names of the parents, but also the god-parents. The god-parents were often relatives. Marietta, How did you go about getting a copy of the Voter Registration for your ancestor? I'm still trying to figure out when my great grandparents naturalized and would love to narrow it down some. 1867 is correct for birth and death records for all counties in OH. Marriages vary by county, depending on when the county was organized or first stated keeping records. For Summit Co. it was 1840 for marriages. A word of caution, the organization date was not necessarily the same as the formation date. Donna djg@bright.net West Salem, OH
