    2. Donna Gruber
    3. The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, January 21, 2006. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the third Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at one of the Akron-Summit County Public Library meeting rooms. The library is located at 60 South High St., Akron, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to enroll. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the January 21, 2006 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, September 2005. It is titled "Social News as a Clue to Ancestry: Hester (nee Rogers) Cunningham of Virginia and West Virginia" beginning on page 165. To register, or for any questions, contact Donna Gruber at [email protected] or call (419) 846-3533.

    2. Cheryl
    3. In my g-grandfathers CW pension file there is an affidavit from two of his children that states that the children officially changed the name from Sarlouis to Sirlouis and that the change was recorded at the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Akron. Does anyone know where I might find this name change recorded officially? Would a visit to the courthouse or other building be useful, or is there someone/where I could write to. This change took place between 1902 and 1918. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheryl

    2. Sometime you get the phone number. In this care you had address and birth years on some. I was able to track an old friend, as when I did the background check it showed that he had moved from his old area in Florida, to a new address in South Carolina. Using that, I was able to obtain two phone numbers, one of which worked. I also use the ancestry address book to gain additional information. Marlene

    1. Re: [OHSUMMIT-L] Lowe
    2. I use zabasearch.com to find living people some times. There is a Franklin E Lowe with a birth year of 1945 living at 1231 Dundee Ave, Akron, Oh 44305 and a P. O. Box 9273 with a Wife Judy L born 1947. There is no phone. There also is a James D. Lowe born Oct 1966 in Akron also. Not sure if this helps, but thought I would offer it up. I also get better results going to zabasearch.com outside of AOL. You might have to inable pop ups to get the background Search. Be sure to use the initials, as the name is so common, too many will come up. If this information tracks, you might have to write them. Marlene
