Tread carefully, Big Boy. FP will be back at ya! Dolly is one of the very first folks I "met" when I started on genealogy. She's very nice. If I recall correctly, I think she lives in Colorado and is a florist. In fairness, FP does seem to have been whopped up the side of the head by someone since I first met her. One can only hope....

I do have a newspaper clipping picturing Rev. Yount and Mr. Haberkost. I think I also saw a Haberkost in the clippings picturing the church boards at Zion and Concordia. Most likely your family went to Zion if they came over with the rest. I got one of those clippings from Jerry Damerow because his mother was a Kroeger and like mine she kept these things. You can email me and we can get together on what I have and what you have. I wish I could remember if Sherman runs parallel to Kling Street. If it does, my grandma lived at 808 Kling St. I wonder if your greatgrandparents were living in l920, my grandpa Runge died in 1928 he was only 58. My mom was Betty Denzin from Akron. My Haberkost line starts with August Haberkost marrying Anna Golz; and, my Runge line starts with Wilhelm Runge marrying Ida Garske. My Denzin line in Akron started with Johanna Denzin who came over in 1883 with some of her children; but, the only trace of her I can find is in an 1883 Directory (but it shows her as widow of Ferdinand and I had him as Albert. He died in Germany) I also can't find where she is buried; she died in 1886. There is a Henrietta Denzin buried at Glendale with the same dates; and, I've been told that is her; but, can't be sure without some sort of documententation. I do have some info on the Haberkost and Runge in my family line if you need something. Please let me know if I can be of help.

Actually, there was no Germany at that time. The area that became The German Empire was divided into small principalities/districts before 1871. The area had been decimated by continual warfare, laying waste to homes, crops, etc. That is why there was such a huge German influx into other countries, including the U.S. Young men were conscripted to fight for the local prince, much of the population was consumed by starvation and disease. Have you looked for a passenger list with your ancestors, or an 1880 Census list? If not, write me offlist at [email protected] and I will share some urls with you and addresses where you might write to find the information you are seeking. Jan T.T

Sherman Street is in the old South Akron formerly known as Goose town because all the Germans lived near South Street. I may not remember much, as a senior, but I remember where I grew up and where my grandma lived.

I can remember going to a big park for the Runge reunion and finding my friend Judy Kroeger there. Jerry, is giving you the facts and they are all about the Kroegers. We have relatives all over. My family switched to Concordia Lutheran Church but the Pastor was sick on the Sunday of my baptism and I was baptized at Zion.
