Can someone tell me when death certificates were required. I am looking for 8 August 1902. He was on a CW pension and his widow needed some type of death validation to claim the widow's pension she was entitled to. However there is nothing in his pension file close to a death certificate. Thanks, Cheryl
Unfortunately, being 3000 miles removed from Akron, I'm unable to attend these discussion groups. But, I am interested in the subject matter. Is there anyway to get access to the articles being discussed? Jan Ask me about hypnotherapy or Reiki for pain relief, healing energy, spiritual emergency, past life regression
The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, March 18, 2006. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the third Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at one of the Akron-Summit County Public Library meeting rooms. The library is located at 60 South High St., Akron, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to enroll. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the March 18, 2006 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, June 1993. It is titled "Family Reconstitution as a Means of Individual Identification: Ole Andersen Kolvien of Voss, Norway" beginning on page 283. To register, or for any questions, contact Donna Gruber at [email protected] or call (419) 846-3533.

Hi. From what I've read on the site you mentioned, I wouldn't get to concerned. They seem to be a so called group of intellects who I call government bashers. They don't give the whole story just enough to scare you. My opinion only! Here in SD we haven't been able to get into certain "newer type" records for a long time, but have no trouble doing legitimate research on our ancestors. Our genealogy societies here in SD sell Research Cards to people who want to do genealogy research in the courthouses. These cards are controlled by the State of SD Genealogical Society. If you've nothing to hide then you shouldn't mind recording your name and address and purchasing a research card. If this helps slow down or stop identity theft and terrorist activities then I'm all for it. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to read what they have to say on their site. Hello, Since the topic of German research has been brought up, hopefully this won't start a big off topic discussion, but I was looking for referrals from anyone who has used anyone to search Germany in the Berlin area. I'm willing to pay for the help, but most of the researchers advertised and on the German sites I've found want upwards of $100 per hour, a little high for me, I know searching there is tricky but maybe there's someone else I could try?? . ..any leads for someone reputable would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Pam in CA
Hello, got this from another list; I can't guaranty it's accuracy, so check it our for your self, but sounds like it would be worthwhile to find out. . . Terry Allen has written an article about the current state of affairs when it comes to looking at public records. The U.S. Government's Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 will bar genealogists and many others from looking at birth and death certificates for 70 to 100 years. The proposed regulations are now causing widespread concern among state officials. The original version is here at: http://www.inthesetimes.com/site/main/article/2488/

In my g-g-grandfathers CW pension application he mentions being hurt in a coal mine. He stated that he was struck by cars. Are there any records concerning coal mines and accidents in the area. Where would be a good place to begin looking for a record of coal mining accidents? Thanks a lot, Cheryl Clinton County, Ohio
I must be lost... What did I do, or what do you mean? I have lost the sequencing of the messages and can't get the gist of what you are saying... Yes, it does appear as if Francis has mellowed a bit. Tread carefully, Big Boy. FP will be back at ya! Dolly is one of the very first folks I "met" when I started on genealogy. She's very nice. If I recall correctly, I think she lives in Colorado and is a florist. In fairness, FP does seem to have been whopped up the side of the head by someone since I first met her.
