My maternal Grandmother was the late Grace [Smith] Evans. The former Mrs. Grace Scott, was married to Walter M. Scott in 1944 and lived in Barberton, where they had two children: Walter Wayne Scott and Marsha Kay Scott. (Marsha Kay Scott, also deceased, was my mother.) After a divorce from Walter Scott in 1946, Grace (then Grace Scott) married Harold Eugene Evans in 1951 and lived in the Akron area. There, they had two children: Lonnie Eugene Evens and Deborah Sue Evans. This is an obituary for my maternal Grandmother, Grace Evans: _____________________________________________________ Grace Evans, 32 years old, of 1344 5th Avenue, died Wednesday (29 Feb 1956) at city hospital after a brief illness. Born in Tennessee, she came to Barberton as a child and lived in Akron for 10 years. She leaves a husband Harold E. Evans, a daughter Deborah Sue, a son Lonnie Eugene, a sister in Dayton and a brother in Columbus. She is buried in Lakewood Cemetery. ______________________________________________________ Her funeral arrangements were paid for by a "Mary Stebbins", and Grace is buried in Lakewood Cemetery next to some Stebbins family members. (Mary Stebbins, likely now deceased, may have been Grace's sister's married name, though this is not confirmed.) There is currently a listing for a "Mary Stebbins" in the Akron directory, but this is not the person mentioned above. There are two Lonnie Evans' in the directory as well; one number has not answered so far, and the other goes to generic voicemail. I do not know the name of her brother (mentioned above). I would very much like to make contact with the Evans family described above. I live out of state, and I have only a single photo of Grace, and would like to learn more about her and her surviving family. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Richard Martin

I am looking for some information about a pastor of a church in Akron in 1894. The pastor's name was P. M Camp. Are there city directories available for that time and would it be possible for someone to do a look-up for me whenever there is time.Unfortunately, I do not know the church affiliation but I am hoping to find out in this way. Thanks for any help at all, Cheryl

Photo was taken in Akron (Summit Co.) OH, by the "Bungalow Studio", and Miriam is wearing what appears to be a christening dress. She is a cute baby sitting in a child’s wicker chair. I found Miriam Haberkost in the 1920 census for Akron, showing she was daughter of Otto and Elizabeth. The list of Ohio Deaths shows that her DOB was 28 April 1913, and that she died in Summit Co. in 1999. Email me at [email protected] if you are related to Miriam Haberkost.

She was 87 when she died and collecting social security. From this link you can request ($$) her social security application. It will tell you her parents names, where she was born, if she worked and where. It doesn't cost too much. I think I paid like $7 but believe it has gone up some.

Did she remarry? Did she move? Do you know where her husband is buried? Do you know the name of the funeral home? Last resort is to get the full obit of her husband and find out the answers to the last two questions, then contact the cemetery and see if they have a record of her burial. They can supply a lot of answers that you didn't even know to ask. Let me know what you have or don't have and we'll go from there.
