Thanks for the reply. What office in the courthouse did you find the information? Cheryl *********** From: "Christine Emond" <[email protected]> naturalization papers Cheryl, I obtained my g-grandparents naturalization papers from Summit County Courthouse if I'm not mistaken. I had checked with the National Archives but they didn't have the records. (They even sent me my check back when they couldn't find the papers.) http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/naturalization/index.html I then looked on www.familysearch.org library site and ordered some microfilm for naturalization records. I was fortunate enough to find a listing there and had what I needed to obtain the records from the courthouse. Check NARA's site first and see what you find there. I would also check the LDS library for some possible microfilm that might point you in the direction you need to go. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/printing/titledetailsprin t.asp?titleno=619927 You might find this site helpful. Hello, I am researching my 2nd gr.grandfather Freeman Fears. He is African-American. I first find him and his family in Jasper Co. on the 1900 census. He moved to Akron, Ohio by the 1910 census first without his wife and two children I'm imagining to find work during The Great Migration North. His wife Celia Hurd-Fears and their two children joined him in Akron by the 1920 census. Celia Fears died Oct 22, 1922 in Akron. Freeman Fears died in 1942. Their two children are son, Essie Fears, and daughter Eva Fears. Essie Fears is my gr. grandfather. I hope to meet a new cousin, and share what I have. Thanks! April. --------------------------------- New Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Call regular phones from your PC and save big.

Sorry, the name of the son of Samuel Leslie and Clara Olivia Brooks Leslie was named George B. Leslie I misspelled his name on the other message. Lorraine Leslie Besmer
I am looking for information on the family of Samuel and Zulema Leslie who lived in Summit County, OH. I first find Samuel on the 1840 census for Northfield, Summit Co, OH Roll 48 page 304. He is listed with 1 female, age 60 to under 70, 1 male 10 to 15, 1 male 20 to under 30. The household above his is for Jacob Leslie (my great great grandfather) shown as 40 to under 50. . I am wondering if Samuel was a brother to Jacob and the older lady in Samuel's household was their mother. I have accounted for the other members in the Jacob Leslie household. The 1850 census Northfield, Summit County, OH has Samuel age 32, born in PA, Zulema age 22 born OH, James D. age 1 born OH. Also in Northfield, Summit Co, OH in 1850 census, Jacob Leslie age 56, born in PA, Mary age 42 born PA, Joseph 31, William, 28, John 24, Samuel age 21, Elizabeth Menoher age 20, Isabella Leslie age 10, Mary Leslie age 7, Martha Leslie age 3. For clarification, Jacob Leslie( abt.1794-1863) was married to Janette Mc Clellan(d) (died abt. 1832). They had Joseph Scroggs Leslie (1819-1892), Eliza Ann Leslie( 1821-?) James Leslie (abt.1822-1864), William Leslie (1824-1872) , John Leslie( abt. 1825-1868) and Samuel Leslie (1828-1894) Another source shows this Samuel being born Nov. 1830) She died. Jacob then married Mary Mathews Menoher (widow of John Menoher). She and John Menoher had two children, Elizabeth and James Gordon Menoher. Jacob Leslie, wife Mary and his children moved to OH. Her children stayed with her parents in PA and came to Ohio a few years later. Jacob and Mary had three infants that died, then three daughters, Sarah Isabelle Leslie 1840-1904), Mary Logue Leslie 1843-1926), and Martha Janette Leslie (1867-1933). By 1850, his son James had married Mary Bliss and his daughter Eliza Ann was married to John Ray. 1860 census shows Samuel age 42, Zulema age 33, James 11, Nathan 5 and William 2. 1870 shows Zulona age 40, James 20, Nathan 14 , William 9. 1880 shows Julema age 50, divorced, James D. 29, Nathan 24, William 17. at Twinsburg, Summit County, OH Family Search (LDS) has Zulema Spafford, daughter of Nathan B. Spafford and Mary Morrison, born 1828 at Twinsburg, OH married to Samuel Leslie born 1824 in Northfield, OH. (census reports show him born in PA) There is also a Samuel Leslie married to Phebe Ann Cook October 9, 1862 at Summit County OH. No idea if this is the former husband of Zulema or my great grandfather, although family lore says he was married three times. The marriage of Samuel Leslie to Clara E. Brooks May 2, 1853 at Summit Co. OH was my great grandfather, son of Jacob Leslie.(she is buried at Independence, IA along with a son , Geoge B. Leslie) My great grandfather was married to Sophia M. Pierce, Dec 11, 1856 in Iowa, she died in 1859, leaving him with an infant daughter.(I have not found where she was buried). Their daughter shows up on the 1860 census in Summit County, but not any after that. In 1864, he married Lucia Augusta Pearsall in Buchanan County, IA. Samuel and Lucia were my great grandparents. They are buried at Spencer, NE. Their children were Sheridan Pearsall Leslie, Karl L. Leslie (my grandfather), John J. (or G.) Leslie, George G. or S. or H.) Leslie, Lucius August Leslie. Willis Ernest Leslie, Clara Golden Leslie, Mary Loavina (or Loania) Leslie and Jenny Bell Leslie. None of the daughters lived to adulthood. As the naming pattern seems to be similar between the Jacob and older Samuel Leslie families, I am assuming they were related. Both had sons named James and William. Nathan would have been named for his grandfather, Nathan Spafford. Jacob had a son named Samuel. My family notes show that Jacob was the oldest child of John and Ann Huston Leslie. There was a sister, Elizabeth and 5 other siblings, not named on the paper I received. I am wondering if Samuel and Zulema's children have any descendents. Any information would be appreciated! I have some King/Steele information strangely obtained from my local paper in Akron Ohio. It starts with: Judge Leicecster King who was a major landowner who had been friends with Akron founder Simon Perkins and was instrumental in bringing the Pennsylvania & Ohio Canal to Akron. His son David Leicester King b. 1826 m. Bettie Steele in Charleston WV in 1849 (Virginia then) They had 5 children. I have their names and notes on David and Bettie. Bettie comes from Robert Steele and Ellen Lewis. No further information on them. Ellen was the daughter of Howell Lewis whose parents were Fielding Lewis and Betty Washington (George's sister) and my 1st cousin like 8 times removed.
