Hi Janean, I think your theory is a good one. I will try to find out if that section of Main street was later turned into part of Main St. Joe On May 4, 2006, at 12:24 PM, Janean Ray wrote: > Well that is interesting. Hi all. Could any of you tell me where 107 Factory Street, Akron would be in 1900? Would it still be there today? Thanks. Donna
Well that is interesting. Furnace St. I believe because the bridge was not built back then. Furnace st is one North of Perkins that I mentioned. It is now a dead end into the railroad. Cedar st back then must have been the last one at the South end. Broadway High Main In that order from East to West run parallel, but I'm sure there was no Broadway back then. At the south end Main dead ends into Bartges and you go a block East to High which is one way South. Broadway is one way North. Where it intersects with Broadway it then becomes S. Main St. To the North Broadway dead ends into Perkins as does High st and Main. However, from Perkins you jump on the All American Bridge which becomes N. Main St. on the other side. It is all very confusing. I'm looking at Yahoo Maps and typed in High and Broadway, Akron, Ohio High St. on there is Rt. 261 you'll see Broadway next it. If you follow the map South you'll see W. Exchange then W. Cedar where you say the map in 1874 stops. Now High st appears to change names at W. Bartges and turns into S. Main. Keep following the map south and you see where it runs under I 76 ??? See how if you keep going south Main and Broadway turn into one? OK now open another browser window and type in Yahoo Maps 1219 S. Main St. Akron, OH That puts you in the Firestone Park area of homes around Gregory and Highbrook and Stanton. These are old homes and very old neighborhoods. This would be my best guess.... You would need to check with the sources I mentioned before or possibly contact the recorders office. http://www.co.summit.oh.us/fiscaloffice/defaultwebapps.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Oakwood" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 03, 2006 7:54 PM Subject: Re: [OHSUMMIT-L] 1219 South High Street, Akron > Hi Janean, > > I actually have a copy of an Akron map from 1874 showing that High > Street runs parallel to Main Street, at least from Cedar to Furnace > St.. Hi Janean, I actually have a copy of an Akron map from 1874 showing that High Street runs parallel to Main Street, at least from Cedar to Furnace St.. THey both appear to extend farther south but that area isn't included on this old map. When I look at a current map it is hardly recognizable. It appears the most of the roads are different except for Main St., which appears it might have a somewhat different alignment in spots. Maybe High street was shortened and the block I'm looking for no longer exists. Glad my request did some good or you - over the years, some of my best research was done accidentally, and usually when looking for someone totally not connected to the person I was searching for. Not too long ago I solved my Lovell line that I had been unable to solve for about 15 years - was able to go all the way back to the immigrant. Odd things do happen to us, don't they? I will keep your message and let you know if I get stuck but as you can see, there are a gazillion names on that page and I would hate to have anyone type it all out..

I have a copy, but do not have copy facility on my printer. If no one else replies, let me know and I will type out the article for you. Interesting how things work! Love serendipity - I bought this book while visiting Akron over five years ago for research I was doing on my high school class and classmates. That was before I discovered great great grandparents had migrated to Ohio from PA in the early 1800s. They died, probably from cholera, in the 1830s, leaving 9 orphans. One, my ggrandfather returned to PA, where he married and raised his family. When I looked for page 790 - a possible ancestor, George Wagoner, biography and photo was on page 789! Regards, Jan
