Well I should have said specifically Barberton. You can't throw a rock without hitting one. I do not know anything about when they came in. Ellis Island records would be interesting to check. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Diane Hettrick" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 12, 2006 12:46 AM Subject: [OHSUMMIT-L] Hungarian & Summit county > On May 11, 2006, at 1:25 PM, Janean Ray wrote: > > > LOL I have to laugh, I'm sorry. I got a copy of his death certificate. His name listed on certificate was Nikolaj Pisak born 1862 in Zemplinska, Slovak Republic. His daughter Julia (my great grandmother), was born in Dunlo, Cambria Co., PA. She married in Moundsville, WV. Her name as listed on marriage license was Julia Pesock. A cousin of mine says the name was originally spelled Pysak. So as to what original spelling was, it could have been any of these variations. I have not found out if my Nicholas is related to Blasej. I can't find any record of any siblings of Nicholas. I believe he came to US before Ellis Island was in operation. I have checked Castle Garden web site but have not had any luck.

These names occur in West Hazleton and Transfiguration Polish RC Church. All those forms of the surname appear on tombstones in Transfiguration Cemetery. I wanted to point out that the surname is also spelled Picak, with an accent over the 'c' making the name sound like the Pisak and Pesock forms. The family I am researching that of John Pesock who was from Bistrica Dolna, Galicia. I believe this family was Polish. I also believe he is related to Blasej Pisak you mentioned in those early messages.
