    1. Genealogy Discussion Group
    2. Donna Gruber
    3. The Great Lakes Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists is sponsoring an Advanced Genealogy Discussion Group. The next meeting is on Saturday, June 17, 2006. The purpose of the group is to discuss advanced genealogical methodology as presented in case studies that have appeared in various scholarly genealogical publications. The group meets the third Saturday of the month, starting at 10:00 am, at one of the Akron-Summit County Public Library meeting rooms. The library is located at 60 South High St., Akron, OH. The meetings last about one and one-half hours. The discussions are free but pre-registration is required. Any experienced genealogical researcher is welcome to enroll. As a pre-requisite, participants should be familiar with Dr. William M. Litchman's article, "Teaching Analysis, Logic, and the Research Process: A Seminar Approach", from the NGS News Magazine, Nov/Dec 2000, pages 340-343. Each participant is requested to read several times, in advance of the meeting, the article to be discussed at the meeting. The article chosen for the June 17, 2006 discussion appeared in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, September 1996. It is titled "Resolving Conflict between Records: A Spurious Moseley Bible" beginning on page 182. To register, or for any questions, contact Donna Gruber at [email protected] or call (419) 846-3533.

I'm trying to find the death and/or birth record for a Carolyn or Caroline Smith, b. 1937-38, d. 1937-38 at two months of age - born and died in Akron, SUmmit, OH. Parents Mary Elaine Abraham (b. 1914 Akron, OH) and Edgar Smith (b. 1911, WVa). I've searched the http://www.ohiohistory.org/resource/statearc/ website and have four possible records: SMITH, Carol - Death date: 10/23/1936, Summit County, Volume #, Certificate #66040 SMITH, Carolyn Ina - Death date: 12/18/1936, Summit County, Volume #, Certificate #79962 SMITH, Carolyn Jean - Death date: 9/28/1937, Summit County, Volume #, Certificate #59401 SMITH, Catherine - Death date: 12/31/1937, Summit County, Volume #, Certificate #79328 Of these, Carolyn Jean looks the most likely to me. However, I don't want to order all four and then find out than none of them are my great aunt. Is there another way to find this death and birth cert? I'd like to be sure I have the right Cert# before I order it. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Christina

Unfortunately, the only information I have is the address "Mrs. Buscko, 82 Brown St, Barberton". This was in my grandmothers address book. I am guessing that this adress is from the 60's. I also have a few family photos from the 50's. (two young ladies, one brides photo, a group shot with many families together). The family would have been from the former Yugoslavia. They would most likely have ties to both Serbia and Croatia. (Could have easily slipped into either group, although thier ethnic origin is another story). Does anyone have access to any indexes or directories for this time period? I do not even have first names to go on. Just photos with faces that look like my grandmother. Thanks for any help you can give. Paul

Carrie was a Wehnes and her father was a Methodist preacher. I believe her birthdate to be 1854 and that she had 2 sisters They moved to Akron from Michigan. John Henry and Carrie had 3 children, Conrad, John Henry, and Lillie. Lillie married Delbert Rhodes. They lived in Akron and had a son Carl Rhodes born about 1909. He married and raised a family in Akron and I am looking for his chidren or grandchildren to get family information. John Henry and Carrie adopted Lillie's first daughter Lillian and raised her as her own. Lillian married Ora (Mack) McCoy and they had a son Roger. My granddaddy's brother was Wyatt Formby and he married Viola Yates and they lived in Akron. They had 3 children, Eunice, Tommy, and Shirley. If any one has any information about these families, I would appreciate it. I know that there are children or grandchildren still living in the area (cousins I have never met but would like to communicate with through mail or email) and the older folks are buried in the Akron area, but have no idea which cemetery.
