In my Stark Co., OH database I have a Catherine BACHTEL, Dau of Samuel BACHTEL and Eliz. LECKRON. Catherine m Jacob RUDY on 31 Mar 1812 in Stark Co., OH. Jacob RUDY was an Elder in the Reformed Church. Then there is a Jacob BACHTEL who m Catherine KERSHNER. They settled in Plain Twp., Stark Co., OH in 1810. Jacob was b in Washington Co., MD as was Catherine. Jacob's father was Samuel BACHTEL who was born in eastern PA where he owned an oil mill and a distillery and was, also, "a minister of the Gospel and wielded much influence throughout the section in which he resided". Samuel's father was Martin BACHTEL who came to America (PA) in 1734 from Switzerland. Jacob and Catherine BACHTEL were married in MD but then moved to Fulton Co., PA until they moved to Stark Co., OH in 1810. Henry BACHTEL, a son of Jacob and Catherine, was a member of the Reformed Church of Jackson Twp. Jacob and Catherine were the parents! of two daughters and four sons; Nancy BACHTEL RICHARDS, POLLY BACHTEL BEARD, Henry BACHTEL, Samuel BACHTEL, Isaac BACHTEL, and Andrew BACHTEL. Most of this info is from "Portrait and Biographical Record of Stark County Ohio" first printed in 1892. My guess would be that "your" Christian BACHTEL was a brother of Jacob BACHTEL and a son of Samuel BACHTEL the distiller/preacher of the Gospel.
