    3. Hi All, Be on the alert for a possible virus called the PANTHER. Those on the HOLMES COUNTY list have received a group mailing with no return address that contained an attachment called "panthr.exe." See the following concerning a virus by that name listed on the McAfee website: I just checked on http://www.mcafee.com and discovered that there IS a virus called "Panther." The e-mail that I received, and assume you all received, has an attachment called "panthr.exe." DO NOT CLICK ON THE FILE CALLED BY THAT NAME! The information concerning it on McAfee's site says the following: Virus Name W97M/Panther Date Added 10/24/99 Virus Characteristics This virus propagates by infecting Word documents in Microsoft Word 97 and 2000 and Word's normal.dot file. This virus consists of a module called ThisDocument. It is able to replicate under the SR-1 release of Word 97. It will turn off the macro warning feature of Word 97. Indications Of Infection None. This virus has no payload and no interesting features. Method Of Infection Not Available...
