The following list are Cartes de visites I have with an identification on the back of the person(s) in the photograph. If they are ancestors of yours I would be happy to give them to you. Just identify which ones you want and your mailing address on an email. Carte de visites were introduced in 1859 and were popular into the 1880s. They were all taken by photographers in Ohio. The dates are those the photographer was in business as listed in the book "Ohio Photographers 1839-1900" by Diane Van Skiver Gaggle, a very helpful book in dating old photographs. Listed in order is the writing on the back identifying the person(s) in the photo, the photographer's name and location and the dates he was in business. I gathered these pictures at flea markets in the 60' and 70's when I was starting my collection of old cameras, photos and photographic paraphernalia. That hobby slowed down and stopped in the early 80's My wife and I are now "into" our family genealogies. It is more fun and takes up a lot less space -- and a LOT more time.
