    3. Hi everybody. Wanted to tell you all about a fantastic book of mid to late 19th century remembrances I came across. It is: A Son Of The Middle Border, by Hamlin Garlin. The copy I found (at Goodwill) was published in 1917, but it is still availible in paperback at places like Barnes and Noble, or through Inter-library loan. It starts by saying his first memory is of his father coming home from the Civil War, and then goes into stories of growing up in that time, threshing and harvesting, moving about frequently, and living in small cabins and farm houses. It is primarily about Wisconsin, but I think many of these stories would be applicable to our ancestors in Ohio. Don't know how it ends yet, as I am only halfway thru. Give it a try--it seems an accurate account of life then.
