    3. A point of history since Steve was writing about Canal Fulton. In 1814 Matthew Rowland plated and started to sell lots in the village he called Milian on the west side of the river. Matthew died in 1822 and his heirs continued to sell lots. In 1826 on the east side of the river and canal another village was started called Fulton. Later Milian and Fulton were combined into Canal Fulton. One of the streets on the west side of the present town is called Milian. When asked about this name most do not know that it was once the name of the village on the west side of the river. Matthew Rowland was my 4th great-grandfather. Of no genealogical interest I'm sure, but my uncle told me that my grandfather used to ice skate the canal from Canal Fulton to Akron or Massillon before he had transportation (1910'ish). I have a 2 photos of the 1913 flood in Canal Fulton. > > Best Regards, > > Steve > > ==== OHSTARK Mailing List ==== > Looking for the genealogy department of the Stark Co library? > <http://www.stark.lib.oh.us/gene.html> -- Bob & Esther Strock, Dalton, OH.
