    1. Evans families of Canton
    2. Doyle Stroup
    3. Hello All, My name is Doyle Stroup. I have been doing my Family History research for more then 25 years. There has always been a mystery about one of my mother's grandmothers. The lady's name was Anna Columbia Evans that married William R. Sliger approximately 1876. Her birthday was 12 October 1855. From the name Evans you can probably deduct that she was of Welsh descent and you would be correct. She lived most of her adult life in Olean, New York. She died there on 13 January 1927. The obituary for her lists several relatives as visiting the funeral. Among these were 2 from Canton, Ohio. They were: 1) Harry Evans 2) Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Evans I looked in the 1930 US Federal Census for both, but could find nothing. I did find Harry Evans in the 1910 and 1930 census. He was married to a Lida (sp?) and the indication was that they never had any children, It does however indicate that he was welsh and that he emigrated to the US in 1860. I know nothing else about Anna Columbia's family. Legend (from my grandmother who was Anna's daughter) is that she was born in Baltimore and that she was named Anna Columbia because she was born on Columbus day. Her census records are ambiguous as to where she was born because in 1880 the census says she was born in Penna. The 1910 census states she was born in MD. The census never in 1900, 1910, 1920 ever indicates she was born in Wales. I have never been able to find a census with her as a child. I believe Harry Evans was her brother and that C. R. Evans may also be a brother. I need some help on getting a better ID for C. R. Evans and getting death info if it is available. Is anybody on this list that can help me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Doyle Stroup e-mail: [email protected]
