We have long had a brick wall concerning our Benjamin Brown, born in Greene Co TN 1807. We have tantalizing connections with several contemporary German families in Tennessee, who also migrated with our Benjamin Brown and his family, but we've never found connections that we can document as being parents or siblings. Two of Ben's descendants have submitted samples for Y-DNA analysis, and have shown to be a good match (24/25), Group #27 in the Brown DNA Project. Their haplotype (E3b) is fairly rare, and among all of the people who have submitted samples, only a handful even match at the 12-point level. Now, a third person, unconnected with our line, has appeared with a 12/12 match and the Brown surname, which is significant, particularly with a less-populated haplotype. These results indicate that he and our donors are probably both from the same line of Browns or Brauns, although perhaps their mutual connection existed several hundreds of years ago. His sample was submitted through a source other than a genealogical one, and he's not particularly interested or knowledgeable about his personal genealogy. He has said, however, that his Brown family was said to be German-Irish and had lived in the Canton, Ohio region for most of the 1800s. He mentioned that his Grandmother's uncle was blinded in the Civil War, and that's all he knows about his Browns. A cursory look at the Browns who have lived in the Canton area for a long time in the 1800s seems to indicate that most of them were German-connected, and that they had mostly migrated from Pennsylvania. Our Brown line is connected with German families which also lived in PA, particularly around York and Lancaster Counties, with names Trobaugh, Drorbach, Hull/Hohl, and Lingenfelter, as well as a Shields family from Ireland. We have suspected that perhaps our Brown line is connected to the line of Brauns that came from Germany to Pennsylvania in the 1730s. Descendants of this family spread out quite a bit, spending a lot of time in Rowan County NC and Washington Co TN. Does anyone on this list know if perhaps the Stark County Browns might be tied to this Braun family? This is the same line that produced Jacob Brown, "The Wagonmaker" and Abraham Brown "The Miller", famous early settlers in NC and TN. Has anyone from the Stark County Browns submitted DNA for analysis? If so, please let me know the name, so I can make comparisons.
