    2. Yes, I apologize. This test is only valid for direct male descendants of the line. The Y-DNA is passed from father to son, mostly unchanged over many, many generations. In this particular analysis, the female component has absolutely no influence, and it's amazing that, in many instances, the Y-DNA in a given surname may not have changed over a period of perhaps 1,000 years. I encourage direct male descendants in any surname line to submit a sample for Y-DNA analysis. As the database increases in size, the importance increases enormously. It's a good idea to spend the extra money and get at least the 25-marker analysis. It's something that you may want to do in the long run, anyway. Any surname descendant may submit to his own surname project. Regards, Jim Patrick
